When I was a kid, and first discovered all that great Minneapolis TWIN/TONE stuff like The Replacements and Soul Asylum, it got to the point where if I saw a tape or CD on Twin/Tone, I’d buy it no questions asked.

That’s how I discovered Run Westy Run.

Turned out that Green Cat Island was the only RWR album on Twin/Tone, and although I do like the two previous ones that were on SST, this one was (and still is) my favorite.

They never got anywhere near the attention or acclaim as those other Minneapolis bands, but they had a great run, and THIS is their best album for me.
Rock, country, punk, folk… they could do it all. And Green Cat Island is the best representation of that.

The fields surrounding the road were wheat, so I knew that at some point, a human being had to come up here, but on the day I was there, I had the road entirely to myself.

It felt as if it were mine, solely.
