First day of scanning my medium-sized hand drawn pieces today. Both for my records, and for choosing a few to have fine-art prints ready for the Maker Faire.

This is one of my favorites, from today's batch. It's inspired by seaweed and chemistry diagrams.

August is American Artist Appreciation Month! We’re celebrating Corita Kent, also known as Sister Mary Corita! The acclaimed artist and teacher used painting and calligraphy to convey ideas about peace, racial harmony and social justice.

Lesson 3 The Power of Corita Kent’s Calligraphic Art in our free Rebel Hearts Curriculum Guide features a hands-on Visual Arts lesson suitable for grades 9-12 based on Sister Mary Corita’s artwork. It’s a powerful tool to help students find their voice through multi-media artwork.

You and your students can learn more about Sister Mary Corita / Corita Kent, her revolutionary protest art, and her time as a nun in the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary with award-winning documentary Rebel Hearts and the Rebel Hearts Curriculum Guide.

Let's be real: this is a Corita Kent fan account. We unabashedly love her incredible protest art.

Which brings us to the question we're itching to ask you:

Who are your favorite protest artists? What is the activist art that fires up your heart and who are the artists behind it? (Any time period, anywhere in the world.)

We want to hear about the activist art in your heart!

If you're a fan of Corita Kent's artwork, too, we have good news!

The Corita Center is giving away a free download of the poster created by Corita in 1976 for the Campaign for Human Development.

This lil kiwi’s all set to go off adventuring! Ready to solve puzzles and do magic and maybe learn how to correctly hold a sword when you don’t have opposable thumbs or hands or arms. You can do it, little buddy!

This lil friend is also going to be a sticker in my September shop update, dropping at the top of next week!

"Munich artist Fritz Schwimbeck is best known for his dark, psychological pen and ink images from before 1920. Labeled a Malerpoet (Painter poet) ... [a] description for artists that created visions of pure, primeval imagination. The Malerpoeten championed black and white images because they believed that a lack of color allowed for just enough distance from reality, moving the viewer to create their own subjective understanding"

A brick-built, vaulted cellar. At the back a stair leads up out of sight. From under the stair emerges the legs of an enormous hairy spider, reaching towards a man who recoils away from it. He holds a burning lamp which casts his shadow a long way towards our viewpoint - his shadow on the bare floor takes up the lower half of the image.

I would like to thank the White House's list of objectionable Smithsonian exhibits for calling my attention to this dope AF art exhibit which, unfortunately, has since closed:

From the Deep: In the Wake of Drexciya with Ayana V. Jackson

It is nicely profiled in this magazine article:
