This is often what happens with representational diversity: when the incentives change, they abandon it because it was a façade to begin with.
Truly inclusive diversity requires a larger cultural change, which is much more difficult, and has to be a priority directed from the top and rewarded/celebrated at the bottom. This includes things like getting rid of people who won’t get on board and incentivizing improvements which doesn’t always happen. #diversity #inclusion #dei

Mal etwas zu #Inclusion: Ich werde belehrend kritisiert, weil ich - wie 70 % aller im Fediverse - #AltTexte nicht oder verkürzt schreibe. Ich teile ausdrücklich die Position, dass wir inclusiv agieren sollten. Aber manche Bilder dienen nur als Blickfang für Sehende, um Aufmerksamkeit für den Text zu generieren. Für eine Bildbeschreibung wie früher in der Schule fehlt mir meist die Zeit. Und vor allem: Es wäre möglich, dass Mastodon diese Bildbeschreibungen per Klick und KI generiert.

🟥Hoy, en un supermercado, una señora muy mayor me ha pedido que le marcara el número secreto de la tarjeta en el datáfono.
Había fallado dos veces porque no veía bien.
Me lo ha dicho casi en un susurro, con esa mezcla de pudor y confianza que se te queda clavada.
Hace unos días, en un cajero, otra señora mayor intentaba hacer un ingreso.
La única persona de la sucursal la había despachado con un “eso se hace en el cajero”.
Estaba intentando meter un IBAN en casillas de números.
Cuando me acerqué le di un susto involuntario y se le cayó el bastón.
Nadie más se había parado.
Cada vez veo más escenas así.
Personas que han sido autónomas toda su vida y que de pronto se sienten torpes, fuera de lugar, solo porque todo se ha vuelto digital y nadie se toma el tiempo de explicar nada.
Me pregunto por qué, en un momento en el que hablamos —y con razón— de derechos, cuidados e inclusión, estamos construyendo una sociedad tan hostil con nuestros mayores.
Como si se nos olvidara que, en nada, seremos nosotros los que pidamos ayuda a un desconocido.
