Sun Voyager Reaching for the Sky – Reykjavík Iceland

Bathed in the brilliant Icelandic light, the Sun Voyager (Sólfar) sculpture rises proudly along Reykjavík’s waterfront, its sweeping steel forms reaching toward the heavens. Created by artist Jón Gunnar Árnason, this remarkable work of art is a modern ode to exploration, discovery, and the human spirit’s endless pursuit of adventure.

Set against a radiant blue sky and the tranquil waters of Faxaflói Bay, the Sun Voyager evokes both a Viking ship and a dream vessel sailing toward the unknown. Its mirrored curves reflect the light and clouds above, creating a breathtaking fusion of sculpture, sky, and sea.

In this photograph by Wayne Moran, the composition draws the viewer’s gaze upward—mirroring the sculpture’s own ascent toward the divine. It’s a tribute not only to Iceland’s proud maritime heritage but also to the boundless wonder that drives us to explore the world around us.

Photograph of the infamous Luna Park at golden hour showing its reflections and the sunset sky in the harbour / harbor. I captured this image towards the end of the festivities of the Australian Navy Centenary in October, 2013.

Golden hour can have so much power and make photographs look seemingly different to their normal daytime view. I await this time of day for the amazing light/glow and hue that the sun offers our planet Earth whilst setting.
