Dopo quelli di Big Thief e Neko Case, a ottobre è arrivato un altro bel disco folk – o potrei dire di cantautorato se non suonasse come una bestemmia (ma che ci frega, a noi le bestemmie piacciono no?). È «Ace» di Madison Cunningham, sembrerebbe il suo quinto album e sembra che stia conquistando le mie albe autunnali.

When I was a kid, and first discovered all that great Minneapolis TWIN/TONE stuff like The Replacements and Soul Asylum, it got to the point where if I saw a tape or CD on Twin/Tone, I’d buy it no questions asked.

That’s how I discovered Run Westy Run.

Turned out that Green Cat Island was the only RWR album on Twin/Tone, and although I do like the two previous ones that were on SST, this one was (and still is) my favorite.

They never got anywhere near the attention or acclaim as those other Minneapolis bands, but they had a great run, and THIS is their best album for me.
Rock, country, punk, folk… they could do it all. And Green Cat Island is the best representation of that.

Last weekend I gave a DADGAD workshop in Karsruhe and the local guitar shop (Die Zupfgeige) was so nice to host us for the afternoon, even offering us coffee and muffins.
