A year ago, I published my opinion on why Europe needs to have its own social media platforms and build strong digital ecosystem.

With recent issues such as Trump's demands to annex Greenland, X's growing role in disinformation campaigns and targeting Europeans with shadow bans, it is necessary to remind that the European Union, without its own social media platforms and the whole digital ecosystem, cannot be fully sovereign.

For Europe, it is not too late to build its own digital ecosystem, spanning from social media networks to AI, storage and productivity software. In fact, it is something that has to be done and there are many European companies, NGOs and communities working to make it happen.

Year after, my strong recommendation for every European organization, company and public institution is to embrace European-made solutions. If we take a look at solutions made in Europe, we can see that Europeans are leading the world in terms of building federated networks, secure, encrypted and privacy-oriented solutions for consumers, businesses and governments.

While Meta and other American big tech companies are banning LGBTQ+ accounts to censor the LGBTQ+ communities, we need to fight back.

People should have the right to freely express themselves, share their stories, resources to help each other and enjoy free, safe and inclusive spaces.

It's clear that we will have to fight to defend basic freedoms that are threatened by the Trump Administration worldwide. Fediverse is the real bastion of real freedom o speech and expression and we will need to keep it that way and strenghten it.
