Oh #thicktrunkTuesday might be a good day for this photo that I took on a recent hike.
It's one of my usual hikes but clouds or fog always make it so special as the usual background is gone and I see the motives in a complete different way.
And believe it or not - I went this path over 10 times but I've never seen that tree the way like at that day.

Tree bark #microbes clean the air by removing greenhouse and toxic gases https://phys.org/news/2026-01-tree-bark-microbes-air-greenhouse.html
"Each #tree hosts trillions of microbial cells on its bark... Most are tree-adapted specialists that feed on climate-active gases... They consume methane, hydrogen, CO... Counting all #trees on Earth, their surface covers an area roughly as all continents combined. The microbial activity across this massive 'bark continent' is potentially removing millions of tons of climate-active gases every year"

A very common tree in the west, but I love everything about Populus fremontii (cottonwood) trees. I even like the snowstorm of cotton like seeds that rains down in the spring (it is messy though). In the fall, the yellow leaves contrast nicely with the dark bark. This tree is set against a background of sandstone near Utah's Capital Reef National Park.

Our Lime and Lemon #Xmas Trees all decorated and set up at our front door!
Indoor tree in next toot in thread.
(Featuring Mr. 1 photobombing, dropping a bauble through the cat flap) #SecretSantaAoNZ
I don’t know if anyone else who wants one has not bought an #Xmas tree yet, but if you want to copy or take inspiration from what we do:
Every third year my family buys a living fruit tree to decorate which goes in the garden afterwards, and one of the thirds we buy a living #AoNZ #native #tree, and the final third we buy a pine tree (just for nostalgia once in a while).
This year is the fruit tree year and we’ll get a lemon tree, which we don’t have yet in our garden.
With the prices of dead pine trees, why not spend the same money on a living plant which will take up carbon rather than release it as it rots after Xmas? And also it’ll continue to give you joy after the #holiday season.
It gives more variety and we get to keep a whole lot of trees for our #garden!

Edit to update: We ended up getting three fruit trees since they were cheap: A Lemon, a Lime and a Plumcot.
Will post pics once they’re decorated, follow to make sure you see them, if you wish to :)
