The continue to be awesome and full of wonder for those who care to see it. 🌊 🌿

It would be nice for our government/industry to have some appreciation of the amazing things we might learn and benefit from if we treat it with respect, instead of reckless exploitation for the profit of the few. 🐙

Repair Festival Aotearoa 2025

6 - 14 September 2025

https://www.repairnetworkaotearoa.org.nz/repair-festival-by-regions

I don't know how this search works as it doesn't list a few I know like the one in Pukekohe is not listed (See below)

press release: https://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/AK2509/S00039/repair-festival-aotearoa-2025-communities-lead-the-way-in-building-new-zealands-circular-economy.htm

At a glance:
There's a repair cafes where volunteers are repairing something you have brought. There are limits either in the size or number of items you bring. Read the small print etc.

There are also some workshops or group activities that teaches you how to mend your own stuff like sewing or patching etc.

Many of these have been happening on a regular basis, either weekly, fortnightly or monthly. For these what happens at each spot depends on the volunteers that show up and their ability.

The ones in Auckland do publicise their regular happenings on fb. There's also some who list in https://ourauckland.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/events/ or Eventfinda https://www.eventfinda.co.nz/search?q=repair

The search on eventfinda shows regular one of the regular ones in Pukekohe https://www.eventfinda.co.nz/2025/pukekohe-repair-cafe/auckland/pukekohe

Many use social media like fb or instagram to publicise their efforts. I don't know if there's any that use Mastodon

Repair Network Aotearoa also had a hand in trying to introduce the Right to Repair Bill

https://www.repairnetworkaotearoa.org.nz/right-to-repair-bill

If you have skills do volunteer to help out at future events.

Our local covid cautious group (partly affiliated with Aotearoa Covid Action) put on a social, kid friendly, masks-required board games afternoon today, and we had so much fun!

Really stoked to have found out these diverse, thoughtful and wholesome community of humans to remind us we are not alone in resisting mass infection.

😷✊🏽🎲🃏

Hopefully this is only the first of many such events!

Cheeky Parrot Games was one of the main organisers in the covid safe game event yesterday (they provided most of the games we played).

I have been clicking around their website and found this thoughtful and very nicely written piece on covid awareness from a couple of months ago.

Give it a read, play their games! They are cool!

Emily Writes about the sad reality of #Aotearoa#NewZealand losing its courage to stand up for what is right.

That courage, that spirit of justice, is nowhere to be found when it comes to #Israel ’s brutal genocide and ethnic cleansing of #Palestinians.

Our reputation is in tatters, and we can never claim to be a country that stands up for what is right, regardless of what the #US thinks, if we don’t act immediately.

The 'hoiho' (yellow-eyed penguin) is one of the world's rarest penguins. It's an iconic penguin in Aotearoa/New Zealand. And it's in severe danger. Department of Conservation (DOC) data showed the northern population had collapsed by 80 percent since 2008, with some colonies already becoming functionally extinct.

Conservation groups are calling on the government to put an emergency fishing ban in place. The government would be informed by a "scientific multi-threat risk assessment". OK. But the government awarded the tender for the assessment in September 2022 already with diddly squat action. While many things have fast tracked through legislation this year with urgency and attempts to keep things clandestine.

Why am I saying this? Well, my #scouts name is 'Hoiho', so naturally I mentally stumbled upon this piece on the radio this morning.

I've been listening to a good #RNZ #podcast, The Lodge. It's about a wellness #cult and the members and the victims. It's presented by an investigative journalist, Phil Vine.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/podcast/the-lodge#RSS is here but I found it in my podcast player of choice's catalogue.

Worth listening to if that's your sort of thing. I think it's still ongoing (I'm a couple of episodes behind)

Now that we're awake anyway, check out the awesome work of Heal the Hauraki.

This episode is about the amazing people doing the mahi to restore ecosystems in Tīkapa Moana Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.

AKA some of the witches with green liquid that Shane Jones is so scared of.
I think it is quite positive, inspiring and uplifting.
