Digesting Food Studies (the CFS podcast)—Episode 110: Feminist Food Studies

Feminist studies and food studies have a fascinating history of difference, alignment, and emergence. This episode covers some of that span, from a laborious recipe for baked rice pudding (without eggs…!) to a themed issue of Canadian Food Studies (Vol. 5 No. 1) that is dedicated to feminist food studies (https://doi.org/10.15353/cfs-rcea.v5i1). Lots of voices this week, including Jennifer Brady, Barbara Parker, Elaine Power, Liz Lovell, Steph Chartrand, and of course the inimitable Alexia Moyer.

This week's #FoodWaste challenge: what can I do with ten limes?

I've tried searching for recipes, but all I've found is intense faff, ingredients I don't have, or would maybe use two or three of them.

So, Fediverse, any suggestions?

Two net bags of limes on a marble-effect counter top. One of the bags has a very green label with the word "Limes" on in big letters. There are ten limes altogether.

"Over a seven-day period, the Kai Keeper participants across Auckland, Bay of Plenty and Waikato took part in a pilot assessment where more than 13 tonnes of food waste were generated from the preparation of 108,730 meals.

...

The 13 tonnes of food waste is estimated to have cost businesses a combined $102,000 in lost value over the seven-day period based on food purchasing and waste management costs."

Results of that food rescue route I mentioned! A lot of produce. Neighbors came and grabbed a lot of the veggies when it came in. I put the rest into the fridge for others to grab later.

This was one vendor on one night.

We throw away so much good food.

I'm going to go find more food.
