Support your local food bank & pantries with your money, not food donations.
Food banks & pantries can use the money much efficiently than any individual donor.

Food banker here with an IMPORTANT MESSAGE: You listening? PLEASE DO NOT use your money to buy cheap food for the food banks or pantries. Just give them that money. I'm 100% serious. Food banks, especially the really organized ones, can get WAY more for the dollar than any individual can, unless you're literally ordering by the truckload from a manufacturer like we are. Feeding America has a whole purchasing network with negotiated prices that make this system work. Also, every time you buy and donate random food items, it creates work for the food bank/pantry. We need to inspect it for safety, sort it into categories, and then work it into inventory. If you donate money, we use it to buy much more food, and we intentionally purchase based on what kind of item is needed. It can also be used to put fuel in the trucks that gets the food to its ultimate destination.
We absolutely do appreciate every donation, and we use items donated from food drives and individuals every day. But look at it this way: You can buy a 5-lb sack of potatoes for $3.00, for example. I can get them for 50 cents per sack because my organization has negotiated the price with the distributor and ordered 10 pallets of them. We need every kind of support we can get right now, but PLEASE let us do the smart shopping

🇺🇸 Withholding funding to fight #foodinsecurity is un-American. Helping feed the hungry is patriotism.
Food insecurity is personal to me. I benefited from food programs as a child. I’ve experienced homelessness. And like many Americans, I received benefits even while employed—because without them, I would have had to choose between food, shelter, and utilities.
The current withholding of #SNAP funding is not accidental. It’s a manufactured crisis, created by the administration and its…

I'm excited to announce that @dan and I have been working on a new non-profit, Rootstock Northwest, with some folks in the local food industry: https://rootstocknw.org
We have three goals:
1. Give fresh produce to the food insecure in our communities.
2. Support local producers and farmers to invest our community food chain
3. Deliver direct to homes to make fresh, local food accessible for all and minimize overhead.
We believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, high quality food and that we can simultaneously feed our communities and support local food chains by delivering produce to directly to those in need. With the current government instability, it is more important than ever to ensure the most vulnerable are fed and that our local food ecosystems are strengthened.

For those who didn’t know, I am a 29-year old gamer and college student. I was diagnosed with autism since early age.
I am very dependent on my pension and my aunt on my budget, however most of it went for food. So I have set this fundraising to help me cover college-related fees, free tuition couldn’t cover beyond intended purpose.
Today, I find myself in urgent need of support. Despite these overwhelming challenges, my determination remains unyielding. I believe in the power of kindness and empathy, which motivates me to reach out to you. Note that some of my funds were to assist my grandmother.

I've seen articles saying November #SNAP benefits won't be sent. The pressure on food banks will be tremendous. Many US protest groups are combining mutual aid with protesting. Volunteering or donating is a great contribution to the resistance, and those unable to protest (e.g., members of very targeted groups) are working hard to feed communities.
Please remember, cash donations are better than canned food, but food banks are hesitant to say so.
