The Resident Doctors' dispute sums up a dysfunction in the management of the health service; a focus on costs not benefits;

we're in a situation where there is both a shortage of doctors (not least due to an ongoing exodus of doctors from the profession) *and* a pool of doctors unable to complete their training or get jobs in the NHS.

Only when the health services is run as *health* service & not an accounting identity where costs are the focus will anything be resolved!

We were Twitter mutuals for a while and we exchanged a bunch of dms about Chinese food and ice cream. She said she could not eat most foods due to her disability but she enjoyed talking about and reading about them. She was also probably responsible for radicalizing me about disability politics. She very kindly sent me a copy of her book. Alice will be missed by everyone who has ever known her, read her, interacted with her.
