My parish did our usual blessing of the nearby headwaters of the Missouri River today, the Sunday after Theophany. I somehow captured this of Fr. David throwing the ice cross into the river with my 5-year-old iPhone SE. We’ve used an ice cross ever since Fr. I've often wondered why atheists seem to better exemplify the values and ethics that the Christian churches espouse, supposedly in the name of some dude that may or may not have lived 2,000 years ago. And I can't help but think that for many of them it's all just an act, that they don't actually believe a word of it.

You know how Jesus said his followers would do greater works than he did? And you know how Revelations talks about all kinds of crazy shit happening in the last days? And you know how Christians have always loved thinking they are the ones living in the last days?
And you know how many evangelicals today desperately want the end to come already? And how easy they are to grift?

And even if a lot of Christians understand that the miracles they get presented are not real, so many of them will still take the videos as a confirmation that we are in the end times, because Revelations also talk about false prophets leading the righteous astray.

Rev. Michael Woolf, senior minister of Lake Street Church of Evanston, was shot in the leg with a pepper ball by state police while protesting outside the Broadview ICE facility, Illinois. He writes for Religion News Service about why he continues to show up at Broadview, the atmosphere at protests there, and religious leaders' obligation to resist tyranny. "It is important for my neighbors who were abducted to know that we will not stop fighting for their release," he writes. "By my estimation, our country is somewhere in 1930s Germany.
