@FediTips Ah yes... #SuperbOwl for pics of excellent owls.
@FediTips Just saw this post and had to think of your list :)

BikeTooter is popular for general cycling discussion, BikeNite for a weekly Q&A on Fridays.
@FediTips
There are several #hashtags that celebrate wetlands in specific months:
#Fenuary (fens/February)
#MarshMadness (marshes/March)
#Swamptember (swamps/September)
#Bogtober (bogs/October)
@FediTips
For people in Ireland:
#mastodaoine #mastodonie
@FediTips
Great list! I scanned it for all the ones I follow... and you had them all! 😁
@FediTips I love how nerdy and specific some of these are
@FediTips
"texlatex" for discussion around LaTeX (the markup language), since just the name overlaps with kink content (since Hashtags don't respect capitalization)
Thank you, added 🙏
@FediTips I have a suggestion for a non-obvious hashtag that I love to follow
#特に意味をなさない猫の計測
(Measurement of cats that do not make sense in particular) 😹
@FediTips iPhone added a measuring tool at some point, so people started measuring stuff available... Like their cats 😹
This isn't a complete list of hashtags, that would take up several dictionaries.
It's just a list of non-obvious hashtags that people might not know about 🙂
p.s. Just to make clear what this list is for:
This isn't a list of all the hashtags people should use, because most of them are obvious and don't need a guide. Something like #Gardening is obvious and there's no need for anyone to tell you about it.
The point of this list is for unusual tags which aren't obvious. Things like #LichenSubscribe or #Florespondence aren't tags you could guess the existence of, you would have to be told about them. That's the point of this list.
p.p.s. To make even clearer: this is *NOT* a list of important hashtags, it's just a list of widely-used tags that people might not know about because they're spelt in a weird way or they use a difficult-to-guess arbitrary phrase or portmanteau.
I'm just doing this to help people discover tags they might not discover otherwise. It's *NOT* meant to be some list of significant or cool things or anything like that.
@FediTips In that case:
#Bleptember - for animals with their tongues out in September
@FediTips Would #DurfTeVragen or #DTV for short count? It literally means "dare to ask", and is the Dutch equivalent of "asking for a friend". We also use #Treinleven ("Train Life") for anything related to (being on) (Dutch) trains.
@FediTips You forgot #WedsNeigh for horse lovers :)
@FediTips
OwlsInTowels
EVs
CatsOfMastodon
@FediTips The list doesn't have #WortsUpDoc for posts with liverworts, hornworts, or other bryophytes. :'(
@FediTips great list! I'm definitely going to use that Waterfall Wednesday one today
@FediTips thanks for this list.
I like # MeerMittwoch - sea views on Wednesday
And
# MarshMadness -wetland photos
@FediTips they don't have to be short and snappy e.g. #MisreplacedAccessChamberCovers AccessChamberCovers
@FediTips Thanks for the list ! Could you maybe add #FediHire as well ? It seems to be used quite a bit on its own without its #GetFediHired cousin.
@FediTips Please tell me you're using CamelCase format for tags? It's so screen readers pronounce individual words rather than smashing all the text as if it was one word and mangling the pronunciation.
It's also easier for sighted ppl to read. A longish phrase that isn't in CamelCase is sometimes too overwhelming or time consuming to figure out and I skip over the post.
Such a helpful list, thanks for doing this.
Yes, of course!
I also urge people to use CamelCase in the website's guides related to hashtags.
Didn't see ThreeGoodThings - individuals posting 3 positive things from their day
Also the daily games - Rogule, Tradle, Worldle, Wordle, CluesBySam, etc
@FediTips no love for the fursuitfriday hashtag?
@FediTips
#FairTradeMusicFriday spikes every Bandcamp Friday. It is to promote music on Bandcamp alternatives such as #Faircamp and Mirlo (and others) that treat artists better than Bandcamp.
Thanks for this, I was wondering what the situation was!
@FediTips this is very cool
and i hope my #ThisIsSoStupidButItMadeMeLaugh is easy to understand, even if it only tickles my funny bone
@FediTips Nice. I have wanted this list for ages!
A couple ND inclusive suggestions:
-ActuallyAutistic – The *author* of the post with this hashtag is autistic (self-id is fine, it's not about gatekeeping autism). Not meant to be used by parents or caregivers to describe autistic people, even if they really really feel they should be able to. Protip: use like a signature, not an adjective describing someone, to make it easier to guess if you're using it to identify yourself or misusing it. OK, it's a really badly named hashtag but it's what we're stuck with.
-Autistic – The correct way to describe an autistic person if you want to use a hashtag as an adjective.
-AskingAutistics – How to ask an autistic person a question about autism. Not to be used to get info on a random topic like autism is a public help desk.
@FediTips @joshsusser Autistic person here - you may want to remove the ActuallyAutistic one from the list. It is, in my experience, mainly used by people to exclude those of us who are autistic but don't "perform autism" in the "right way" and so are excluded or told our experience and knowledge isn't valid. Gatekeeping, in other words, rather than community building.
And yes, I was diagnosed in the early 90s and used in a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. No self-diagnosis here. (Not that a person can't self-diagnose; just noting that I did not.)
Edit for an example: I present with severe sensory issues, emotional bluntness, interest fixation, and mild stimming - mainly rocking back and forth when anxious. This is, in some circles, not an autistic set of traits even though it fits diagnostic and social criteria. The circles that are the fastest to reject me are the same ones who use "ActuallyAutistic" because it's a nonstandard presentation compared to what they claim autism is. (It's not a spectrum; it's more like a compass rose type thing, at least that's how I see it.)
@arthfach @FediTips I'm sorry you had that experience, but it is completely counter to my own experience. I have never seen it used as gatekeeping autism, and in fact I see people go out of their way to oppose that kind of gatekeeping. The only gatekeeping I have seen with this tag is over using the tag itself, with autistic folk asking allistic parents to stop using it to talk about their kids.
Hell of a thing, replying to my suggestion to add this tag with a suggestion to remove it like I'm not right here. Sheesh!
