1/n I’m on a long train trip again! I’m almost out of data, and have a ton of work to do, but will try to share interesting updates if they arise.
Before the internet starts mansplaining trains again:
- yes, I’m aware of the existence of quiet cars,
- yes, I book my seats in advance, and in those quiet cars if available,
- yes, I know that I can book 1st class tickets and do so depending on availability and other factors.
In fact, I’ve been on my train for only 30 minutes and am already regretting paying an extra 20 € for first class. One of the passengers here is exceptionally disgusting, he’s sitting opposite of me, and it’s busy enough that I cannot really move.

Toch naar kantoor. Rug doet het weer een beetje. De ramen van de trein zijn zo smerig, dat ik maar naar de vloer kijk.
Naar grote dagen oude koffievlekken, kranten, snoeppapiertjes, etensresten en andere vlekken en rommel.
Straks uitstappen op Utrecht CS. benieuwd hoeveel politie daar dan al staat.

Great. Took a 7:15 train to get to the office on time so I’d have some time to re-read my notes and set up my laptop etc before teaching a lecture at 8:45, but because of a “power failure” there are no trains between The Hague and Delft, so now I’m sardined into a delayed street, and will, in a best-case scenario, run sweatily into the lecture hall at 8:45 sharp 😩
At least there is a streetcar, I guess.

I’m on a train and someone clearly hasn’t realised that their headphones aren’t properly connected to their phone. That in itself is nothing new. However: by the sounds of it, this person is listening to an AI-generated audiobook. As in: both the writing and the voice seem GenAI’d, and both are so bad lol

p.p.s. To make even clearer: this is *NOT* a list of important hashtags, it's just a list of widely-used tags that people might not know about because they're spelt in a weird way or they use a difficult-to-guess arbitrary phrase or portmanteau.
I'm just doing this to help people discover tags they might not discover otherwise. It's *NOT* meant to be some list of significant or cool things or anything like that.
@FediTips Would #DurfTeVragen or #DTV for short count? It literally means "dare to ask", and is the Dutch equivalent of "asking for a friend". We also use #Treinleven ("Train Life") for anything related to (being on) (Dutch) trains.
@anna it's a shame that the NS is not on the #fediverse ... on Twitter (before it went x) they would have surely tuned in
