Alrighty then. Thanks to everyone who participated in this week's #SolarPunkSunday, especially, @BrambleBearWhuffling and @MaQuest ! We'll be talking about #SeedStarting and #GardenPlanning soon, and for those in the #SouthernHemisphere, late summer gardening! And, of course, #RepairCafes, #VisibleMending, #DIY, and other related topics!

I do a lot of posts attempting to normalize and cool-ify hella subversive stuff
#VisibleMending
I'm also a big fan of the new trend of visible mending — normalizing those patched clothes is important. (I just wrote a short story this fall literally called *Visible Mending* 🙂 ) #VisibleMending

I’m going to do more of this in 2026: I just finished my first attempt at darning / #VisibleMending. It’s obvious that I didn’t know what I was doing here, but I had fun and I feel like I got less-bad as I went along. Kids destroy pant knees and I’m tired of throwing away otherwise fine jeans due to a blown out crotch or worn-through pocket.
(Obligatory “this is proof I have the patience to stab something 4,000 times.”)
A short escape from painting: visible mending. I have this periodical urge to do some repeated stabbing, and son had torn pants. It's a new discovery -- to be imperfect and spontaneous -- and make it fun and playful. Why can't we be more like this? Son may not wear these anymore, but I don't care.

I've been wanting to try doing #Furoshiki (but probably not this year). I've been putting aside pieces of cloth with interesting patterns for future cloth wrapping (and/or #VisibleMending .
Another #VisibleMending last night...
It's a cat peeking through a hole.

An excellent article that touches upon stitches, #embroidery, #Sashiko, and patches!

April 18, 2024 | Kathryn Kellogg
"One of the most sustainable things you can do is just use what you have. That pertains to clothing items too: Simply shopping your closet first can make a big impact.
"Why? Well, did you know there are enough clothes on the planet right now to dress the next six generations of humanity?"

I re-mended my kid's jeans. I'm pleased how it turned out. 🕷️🕸️

I'm excited about this one. Mended a small hole in my jeans using a Speedweve pocket loom I got a couple years ago. It's not perfect, but it works, and I have ideas about how to do better next time. Not bad for a first go.

What a cool sashiko design, and I feel like it would also not take forever. A YouTube short, so not the best, but it's a pretty cool technique, also with the good tips of that specific raw edge treatment and turning the needle!
