I've been accused of trying to deliberately shock and offend, but honestly, some people can't handle the reality that gay people exist. Do you consider other people's feelings when you're writing? Is there a way to show representation that's not offensive?

HOW GREEN ARE YOUR EYES JOHN HARTLEY The follow-up to the acclaimed debut novel 'The Broken Bottle' by John Hartley. Follow the adventures of Wilf Hughes as he sets sail to Eire in search of, well, something that isn't just moping around at home. The five were squeezed into the bright yellow Renault heading eastwards. The roads were quiet and Wilf, sandwiched between his cousins in the back, had a good view of the countryside his dad had talked so fondly of. The car rattled onwards before, on the cusp of a sharp bend, Edward slammed on the brakes causing Wilf to lurch forward between the two front seats. At the age of 18 Wilf Hughes has survived childhood, studying for A-levels, and being shot at when all he wanted to do was play songs in a band. Now he is heading across the sea for his first adventures as an adult. In the company of his cousins Eileen and Mary Rose, Wilf discovers the beauty of the Irish countryside, whilst embroiled in the neighbours' family drama. In the process he chances upon the enigmatic Orla, and a darker side to 1990s Ireland. Has Wilf seen too much for his own good again?

The image would disappear before you could get a real look at it, and you'd have to wait for a whole minutes before it came back.

Eventually, you'd pick out her, looking like a shadow of her happy, cheerful self, as well as a dark-skinned boy with a hint of madness in his eyes, an earnest but terrified white hippie girl, and a big Asian boy with raggedy black hair.

#ScribesAndMakers 15, How's your creativity going? Do you need help? Would you like to share a paragraph or image for critique?

To be honest, critique is about the last thing I require, atm. Feeling like an open wound on a windy day at the beach. Can I ask for some over the top encouragement instead?

Why doesn't art come with cheerleaders?

#PennedPossibilities 725: Do you have a favourite character in your current WIP?

Yes. The funny one who wants to be the hero. He's endlessly fascinating to me, and a real fan favourite, too (based on the few people who've read it).

#PennedPossibilities 724 - MC POV: Tell us about your relationship with your family.

"They're so great. My dad cooks, and my mom's just always there, and my brother's fun to play with, and our floor cousins! We have elevator races up and down the arcology. The aunties and uncles and omas and popos. I miss them so much."
