I’m looking for a new job as my company will be reorganising soon. I do software design*, user research, product management and have hired and managed teams of designers and developers.

Looking for something senior but I like the mixed nature of startup roles because I still like doing actual hands-on design. I’m in the UK, where I live means a remote role is best. Boosts welcome.

* currently ed-tech, previously e-learning, games publishing, mobile apps, and branding

Hello, Fediverse. I'm looking for embedded experts to help save #LEGO MINDSTORMS!

Background: https://pybricks.com/project/saving-lego-mindstorms/

Help: https://github.com/pybricks/support/issues?q=label%3A%22help%20wanted%22%20label%3A%22platform%3A%20EV3%22

I've made major progress, but I'd love to get some help! If writing an SPI flash driver or USB device implementation is your thing, I would love to hear from you 😀

I'll gladly donate an EV3 set for this. We can do this as a paid project too if that's a better fit. Let's discuss!

Do any of you guys work at any companies that could use some design services for a project? Like, needing an app icon, a new logo, an advertisement, a website? Big or small is fine - @Iconfactory has some of the best designers around sitting idle and waiting for something to do! They can get started on new stuff basically right away if you email.

(Please help spread the word! Maybe someone you know needs it? We can do whatever! Get in touch. https://iconfactory.com/services)

#FollowTheMoney 🧵57/n

This LinkedIn post resonates … wanted to share here just in case there are others who are in this situation too.

Also one reason I hardly ever add to this 🧵any more is that, of course, I am literally trying to #FollowTheMoney, or rather, divert some from somewhere to my bank account😄 #JobSearch #FediHire

This week, a friend told me they'd taken a job with
lower pay and a smaller title.
"It's not my dream job," they said. "But I need the
money."
My heart ached for him.
The last two years have been the hardest l've seen in
30 years of watching the job market. Talented people
who once had their pick of opportunities are taking
lower salaries/titles because they don't have any
choice.
This in a world that's full of "Find your purpose." And
"Do work that lights you up every damn day."
F**k purpose for a minute.
There's no shame in taking the job that feeds your
family. There's no shame in staying in an industry you
don't love if it keeps the lights on.
Some of us are just trying to get through the month.
And that's okay. This season won't last forever.
I used to believe I had to "love what I do" every day.
That if I wasn't perfectly aligned with my highest
values, I was failing.
What a load of privileged bullshit.

I suppose today is as good a day as any to announce this: after 13 years, I am no longer at Mozilla and I'm looking for my next thing.

25 years experience in web design and front-end dev (non-React). Mostly dev for the last decade (in a Python/Django environment), but my design roots mean I work well with designers. I'm especially interested in scaling design systems but I've done a LOT of "turn the mockup into a web page" work and I'm pretty good at it.

Ideally looking for fully remote but I'm open to a hybrid situation in the SF Bay Area, if the circumstances fit. Also looking for full time, but open to freelance/contract gigs as well.

I don't know what else to put here. Am I doing this right? Oh yeah, hashtags.
