Yet another real headline that feels like it's from the Onion 🙃
I watched the California debate and unless there's someone else running I haven't ever heard of - y'all are so fucked. Very Aliens versus Predator vibes up there.
I have spent years of my life wondering "how does a state large enough to have its own NATION-sized economy elect and assclown like Newsom or fucking Arnie" but no, I get it now... jeezus christ.
Watching the birdies as spring unfolds

@brembs @albertcardona look at the incentive structures in science now. It’s all innovation, newness is fetishised, publish publish publish, only “high impact” journal publications really matter … where is the place for kind of boring, routine maintenance and enabling of others?
That is correct, yes, but a) the people who run, e.g., Flybase now are, to my knowledge, not scientists in this aspect any more and b) if you're going to have a database at all, why not do it right?
Elon Musk supported transforming the artificial intelligence startup into a for-profit company, but wanted full control in part to help him raise $80 billion to colonize Mars, OpenAI's president testified. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2026/05/06/tech/musk-mars-openai/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #business #tech #elonmusk #openai #mars #ai #spacex #samaltman #gregbrockman
Is this just a standard nickname that I’m just surprised to learn about

> the word concept of agnosticism was introduced by an English anthropologist in 1869
Do you know what relationship, if any, it has to the concept of Christian gnostics?
@strypey Not sure? The History section of the Wikipedia article will have more information.

I had a professor in a university PM course who had a lesson that has had a lasting impression on me.
He said that the people who are most successful in #life & #business, are the ones who most readily adapt to change of all kinds.
His advice was that more than any other skill, if you practise being adaptable and quick to let go of old assumptions & behaviours, then you will have an advantage when things inevitably change.
This is on my mind a lot as we face so much change these days.
Google is, frankly, just an awful company. If you're still using Chrome as your daily driver, you should probably reconsider that decision. (or Google for your search engine or Gmail for email or Youtube for entertainment)

He wants to steal all the oil in Venezuela. He wants to interfere in foreign elections to keep his dictator cronies in office, lest they lose power and find themselves facing prison. And when Trump's allies *do* face justice, he wants to fire the judges who dare hold these corrupt, powerful men to account.
So when the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for the genocidaire Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump had Microsoft shut down the court's IT systems.

@pluralistic Netanyahu... what a deeply evil man. I think he is the worst human on the planet right now.
He is not satisfied controlling his own country, he feels the need to control other countries too.
What a demon...

@r1w1s1 Bottom is already available as a SlackBuild. But it pulls in all Rust crates as a dep, that's why I decided to do a simple rpm2tgz on this one. Less obtrusive.
Fresh isn't there, so that would be a relatively new one.
For Brave it looks quite straightforward: there's a Slackbuild for Brave, converting the deb. Origin beta provides a deb also, so that one is probably the best to start with.
I'll be back ;-)
Yeah, Rust vendoring can become a bit painful 🙂
Fish is a good example of that already — huge vendor tarballs and lots of crates to keep track of.
I'm not saying nobody has ever found dyslexia fonts useful but I don't think very many dyslexics have and I think it sorta serves as a way for people to feel like they're helping dyslexics without actually doing much. I don't blame them, they're trying, but I wish they knew about line spacing and breaking up paragraphs visually and other imo more important and effective ways to improve readability.
Has a novel been published yet that mentions Mastodon/Fedi?
Mac users wanting the new NetHack: it's finally in Homebrew now. (Test issues took me a little bit to work out.) You can `brew install nethack` or `brew upgrade nethack` and you should get the 5.0.0.
