Today's successful launch of twin #Escapade probes to #Mars for #NASA - plus the first-ever recovery of a #NewGlenn booster rocket, bolsters the status of #BlueOrigin as a worthy competitor for Elon Musk's #SpaceX. https://www.geekwire.com/2025/second-launch-blue-origin-new-glenn-escapade-mars/ #NG2 #Space
「 IMO, the #Mars #Pathfinder problem was caused by the over-removal of asynchrony - true #concurrency - from the problem and replacing it by step-wise simultaneity, then mis-labelling this approach as “concurrency”. This led to the problem that Facts were ignored. The bug was encountered - apparently “randomly” - before launch, but, ignored. The use of the function-based, overly-synchronous paradigm caused an unforeseen gotcha, but, it looked liked a random Act of God, and was, thus, ignored 」

To "celebrate" (ahem) Elon Musk becoming the first trillionaire ever, I invite you to (re)read this story I wrote a couple of years ago. I hope you like it.

Wow, great new vistas captured 12 hours ago by Perseverance after a long run down the rim of Jezero Crater.

Evening photography challenge for 23 October.
Look southwest, just above the horizon about 45 minutes after sunset. The crescent moon will be next to Mercury and Mars.
Binoculars will probably be helpful, and you can't have any obstructions along the southwest horizon.
The finder chart shows (red wire rectangle) the amount of sky coverage of a 135mm lens for a camera with an APS-C sensor (or a 200mm lens and a camera with a full frame sensor).
BTW, if you wait another 20 - 30 minutes, comet A6 Lemmon will be visible farther to the right and a bit higher up. Bonus!

NASA has said it is opening its marquee U.S. moon landing contract to other bidders as Elon Musk's SpaceX has experienced mounting delays with the Starship lunar lander. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2025/10/21/tech/nasa-spacex-contract-starship-rivals/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #business #tech #jeffbezos #blueorigin #spacex #rockets #space #elonmusk #nasa #us #moon #mars #artemis

Aujourd'hui, Mars.
