I think I have decided on the memory map for the 2K Tiny BASIC I am writing.
I have also ironed out exactly what the syntax is for the GNU assembly for AVR microcontrollers.
Much thanks to the comments @ @permacomputer .
Just starting to wrap my head around having so many registers on the Arduino Uno, haha. Much of the inspiration for this project is gleaned from a 6502 KIM-1 Tiny BASIC.
Watch this space.

I might think on it for a bit, but I may write an introduction to doing assembly for the Arduino within a free software environment.
Much of the code out there is written for proprietary compilers that use a different syntax.
Despite this, with a few changes you can get code off the internet for a non gcc compiler working pretty easily.
Setting constants, invoking register pairs, the register pair conventions, and a few other subtle syntax differences can all be fixed.

serial out now working.
work seems to be able to proceed a bit faster now that the different conventions between avr-as and avr-gcc are understood.
the project is opting to use avr-gcc for the power of its macros, which may come in handy. having symbol pre-processing available makes development that little bit easier.

Progress has been made on writing a Tiny BASIC for memory limited microcontrollers.
Please find the code for AVR assembly for a working blinking LED demonstration for the Arduino Mega.

This forum thread will serve as a devlog for "2K Tiny BASIC".
The point of this line of activity is to write a Tiny BASIC that will fit on the cheapest and most readily available microcontrollers. Most of which have about 2K SRAM--such as the Arduino Uno.

BASIC ideas:
- BASIC written in Arduino assembly again
- BASIC written in Common Lisp
- yet another 6502 BASIC
Common Lisp (SBCL) ideas:
- a line editor in Common Lisp
- a static site generator the way i actually like to do it... in Common Lisp
special mention:
- try and remove the C primitives from emacs again
- look into guilemacs again

#Arduino, #maker and #electronics folks should know this exists: it's a USB Power Delivery trigger, a tiny and cheap (AU$6.90 from Core Electronics) board that pulls the full 12V or 20V or whatever, at all the amperage, from a phone charger that supports USB PD. No more screwing around with chunky variable voltage supplies!
I'm pairing one with some stepper drivers that buck input voltage down to 5V for microcontrollers, so this is 100% of a small motor-driven project's power supply right here.
