See, they build the robots so that, at the beginning of each processing tick, the LEDs in the eyes are set to light up red. The only code that changes the color to blue is at the end of the ethics subroutine. That way, if the ethics subroutine ever malfunctions, the eyes light up red. It's a safety feature. Probably required by consumer protection laws.
