π¦ One of my favourite detail shots. How adorable is this! Inside a traditional-style Japanese elementary school hidden in the mountains. The school has been abandoned since the 1990s.

@jesterchen @duke_of_germany ah, I thought π€· was well understood to mean "I don't know/care, I just want to see the results". It's pretty commonly used, but clearly not commonly enough. Sorry!

Stagnated using Busuu for learning #Japanese - still at katakana (and hiragana) besides just basic phrases. I think I'm going to try watching shows with subtitles &repeat - maybe Midnight Diner, and I hear Shirokuma Cafe (will have to figure out how/where to watch).
Considering WaniKani - just signed up and maybe Bunpo
I should just get a copy of Genki and a workbook, shouldn't I? Though mostly I want conversational, comprehension ability.
Open to suggestions.

β₯ I am happily married!
β₯ I am a π #cat mom to 3 and a πΆ #doggo mom to 1 very crazy #whippet. I will likely be posting a lot of pictures of my #cats Saria, Majora, and Link, along with the occasional Mabel picture.
β₯ I am a Linux Server Administrator.
β₯ I currently live in Arkansas in the US, but I'm trying my hardest to relocate out of the South for obvious reasons.
β₯ My memory is absolutely terrible, can't really recall a majority of my past.
β₯ Iβm reasonably confident in my programming ability; my projects are often less so.
β₯ Took a π―π΅ #Japanese language course in high school only to forget it all the next year. Currently working on relearning what I've forgotten.
β₯ Use to be super involved with π #theatre. I was in a mime troupe in high school; I learned mime stuff, stilt & ball walking, small bit of π€Έ acrobatic stuff, diabolo stuff. I was active on stage and behind the curtains for several shows throughout high school and college. My social anxiety has mostly put an end to that chapter of my life, though.
β₯ In my free time I'm either tinkering with my
#homelab, watching
#jellyfin or youtube,
reading #manga or #webtoons,
playing video games (sometimes on #Twitch), or taking πΈ pictures of my cats.
Feel free to add me, I enjoy meeting new people!

I'm looking for good resources to learn about the radicals in #Japanese kanji. I.e., not whole kanji, but rather the component parts.
I don't want to memorize kanji. I don't want silly mnemonic devices. I don't want to look up kanji by radicals. I want to learn about the history, function, sound & evolution of radicals.
Can anyone recommend books, websites, apps, anything?
I know they exist but they're hard to find via search engines.
Thank you for recommendations. 1/2
Keeping in mind that I'm chronically ill and have very little brain juice for learning new things, so I need something easily digestible that I can absorb in tiny bits and at my own pace:
Anyone have any good recommendations for ways to learn Japanese casually, online/remotely?
(That aren't Duolingo, of course)
From a podcast " #Japan has one of the longest lived and healthiest populations in the world, and let #Japanese startups are playing a relatively small role in the recent #longevity- #tech boom."
Could it be because tech has nothing to do with longevity in Japan? That it's actually lifestyles, healthcare, & traditional diets that matter?
Couldn't that be the lesson here?

AshmoleanAdvent Day 13: Chestnut #Netsuke.
Until the 19th century #Japanese citizens wore a kimono, fastened by an obi (sash). Small personal items such as purses, pipes or medicine containers were hung from the sash by silk cords. The cord was threaded through a bead, or ojime, then tucked behind the kimono sash and secured with a small ornamental toggle or counterweight called a netsuke.
