Kobo is bringing Instapaper integrated to its eBook readers. You can use it to send web articles to your eReader. With Mozilla shutting down its Pocket service, Instapaper will offer similar functionality for Kobo users moving forward. #Kobo#Instapaper#Pocket#Mozilla#eReadershttps://blog.instapaper.com/post/789685899750424576/instapaper-rakuten-kobo-integration

Awesome, thanks for the tip. @alcinnz has been developing a browser from scratch for a while.

But again, my question is focused on replacing Mozilla, as a coordination and funding scaffolding. FireFox could easily be hard forked if Mozilla is irrecoverable. The question is how to fund that properly, and how to set up governance to hedge against enshittification (eg a platform co-op owned by devs).

PS My apologies @nicktaylor, now that I've read more into Ladybird I see they're doing both. Creating a new browser and a new not-for-profit for it. I'll be intrigued to see how they plan to structure the org to avoid Mozilla's fate.

Also why they decided to start from scratch, instead of forking at least some components of a working libre browser. Even if only to swap them out over time, as Chromium did.

As you probably heard animated PNG images (APNG) have been standardized! So here's a story on how I used an APNG file to cut a phone's power consumption by 10 times in a common scenario during the weeks leading up to the launch of Firefox OS 1.0. We'll talk about webpage layout, rendering, mobile hardware intricacies, driver bugs and of course APNG files. 🧵 1/16

@gabrielesvelto I still remember #FirefoxOS and I'm still mad at @Mozilla / @mozilla_support / #Mozilla for self-sabotaging because neither me nor @fuchsiii nor anyone else I knew who did #WebDev / #AppDev / #MobileDev could even buy a device.
  • The only device that I was aware of launched in the #EU was a #SimLock'd & #NetLock'd #prepaid phone in #Spain which wouldn't sell it to us since they demanded #KYC with a spanish residency address.

I mean it's cool that one could just use #Firefox as #Emulator but no #mobile#OperatingSystem will have any chance of market attraction if one cannot buy the bloody thing!

  • Same like #OpenMoko: I'd love to get a #Neo1973 but none of the phone and electronic stores had it (and back then I was under 16 so I couldn't just make an account at an online shop)…

⚠️ Important PSA about #Pocket ‼️

If you used Pocket to save interesting articles you found online, you may be aware that #Mozilla decided to shut down the app and discontinue support.

I vaguely remembered that date was July and had a mini-heart attack when I saw it was actually July 8.

Good news though: if you, like me, have hundreds of articles saved to Pocket, you have until October 8 to request an export of your data (I just did): https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/future-of-pocket

Next up: moving to @wallabag 🤗

Firefox è ok. Le persone che lo gestiscono no! Ecco perché la gestione di Mozilla è un bug, non una feature...

Contare tutti i treni che #Mozilla ha perso è un penoso calvario, ma qualcuno deve farlo...

「 Stop copying Chrome. The Australis theme in 2013 is what drove the Pale Moon project to fork the code. The all-in-one Seamonkey project still exists, too. We occasionally use its WYSIWYG HTML editor – even today, there's nothing else like it. It used to be official. Maybe it should be again 」

> don't think Firefox has died under Mozilla's stewardship

Then you have simply not been paying attention to the gradually rising temperature of the water you're sitting in. I suggest you search #mozilla in your app, do some reading, and catch up.

> Maybe they want to boost the share price of their Google shares?

Goggle have been running Mozilla for years. But if you have an accusation to make, you better back it up. Otherwise this is a smear, pure and simple.

@Puck

Lot's of replies to this have missed the point completely. I'm not talking about Firefox. I'm talking about *Mozilla*.

We need a community-driven Free Code browser. For that, we need coordination and governance. was set up to provide that, for code liberated by NetScape.

But Mozilla has observably failed to be a good steward for community-driven Free Code projects. Many projects have died or languished on its watch, including FF.

So do we try to fix it, or build anew from scratch?
