The recording of my #AllSystemsGo 2026 talk is up: “Immutable, Fully-Confined Debian Server Images, Even on a Raspberry Pi 3”.
A minimal Debian server built with mkosi and apparmor.d: UKI, A/B updates, dm-verity, a whole-system #AppArmor policy and an immutable /etc from signed confext images. Same image on x86-64 and a Pi 3, with different attacker models.

A Przewalski’s horse has been born in the wild in Kazakhstan for the first time in around 200 years. The foal is an encouraging milestone in efforts to return this once-extinct-in-the-wild species to the landscapes where it once roamed. 🐴🌿

The SEO Framework plugin just got even better support for the Fediverse.
"Mastodon can credit a Fediverse profile when someone shares a WordPress URL. TSF outputs the tags that make that credit possible."

“AI Is a Book Ban — Sonja Drimmer”
https://sonjadrimmer.com/blog-1/2026/10/14/ai-is-a-book-ban
> For one, the ease now with which information is availed to people by summary means that there is a screen between people and the actual sources of information they seek. That's the obvious part, and that's a kind of low-hanging-fruit argument about how generative AI has mounted barriers between people and information.
In a study published in March, we found that the speed of global warming has nearly doubled since 2013, using a continuous piecewise-linear function.
“Continuous” as otherwise one describes the data by a sequence of trends and abrupt jumps.

This tale - it's long, read it! - reminds me why I try to minimize my time programming. I'm not sure why math seems so much easier to me, but one reason is that I don't like to remember precise syntax: I don't like it when the world blows up if I forget a comma or something.

@hiker @smallcircles as a free software advocate i have learned the hard lesson that wishing something were true does not make it so and i think we need to do a lot more than just correcting others to say "fedi" over "mastodon" i think we should be developing a forum for protocols outside the w3c and the FEP process which is frankly uninterested in taking up features to protect marginalized users among other failures
@hipsterelectron @hiker @smallcircles to solve the problem of multiple standards Fighting for adoption, we invented one more standard. Some people didn't like this and now there is another body that publishes standards.

💔 Only 2 days until my surgery. I’m still $20 short of buying pomegranates and iron-rich food to strengthen my weak body. 🙏 Could 2 kind souls give $10 each? I need strength to recover and care for my children. Please don’t leave me alone. ❤️

Today is World Standards Day, so let me introduce you to the Standard for Public Code! It's made to ensure that codebases built for public organizations are easy to collaborate on, even across jurisdictions. It's free to use and available on https://www.standardforpubliccode.org
