#ScribesAndMakers 15 July 2025 —How's your creativity going? Do you need help? Would you like to share a paragraph or image for critique?

Nobody is interested in my German writing. Perhaps you are more interested in photography. Hence a picture of an ermine in winter fur I took last year.

It seems we have a bold one! Baby Porcupine (more like Toddler Porcupine) ventured out without mom, during the day. Maybe it’s just practicing going over Porcupine Bridge but I think this one is going to be a HANDFUL. 😂

This is a 14 second trailcam video taken during the day. A juvenile porcupine ambles down a wooded trail toward a small stream of water that crosses the trail. The porcupine is chocolate brown and has grown in whitish quills on its backside. Its head and paws are darker brown. It hesitates slightly before stepping onto a small stone bridge that was built to accommodate porcupines and other critters that would prefer not getting their paws wet… even though the water is only about an inch deep. 🤭

Calling all bird lovers, we've been hearing this unusual bird call over the last few weeks here in Ghent, Belgium. The call is made up of two parts and sounds kinda tropical and is usually heard in the evenings and repeats a few times. Apps like Merlin Bird Id don't know either. #birds #ornithology #wildlife

The Japanese beetle, an aggressively invasive insect species, has been detected for the first time in France, authorities in the east of the country said Tuesday. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/environment/2025/07/09/wildlife/france-japan-beetles/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #environment #wildlife #beetles #france #environment

Photography walk this morning, looking for butterflies.
Along the edges of the forest roads raspberries are ripening. Food!
First there were the fresh bear prints.
Then he high-tailed it.
Good bear!

A luna moth on a finger. In this image, the camera shows the moth from the top, giving a full view of the stunning wings.

Along the top is a wide, dark pink border, which matches the legs you can see clinging to my finger. A majority of the wings are a dusted pale green, although where they connect to the body is slightly more yellow. There are also four eyespots on the wings (one on each), which are the same pink as the border with a black stripe along one side.

You can see the feathery antennae by my finger, and glimpse the dusty white body beneath the wings.

A luna moth on a finger. In this image, the camera is focused on the main body, which is about an inch long, and a dusty, fuzzy white. The antennae are feathery or comb-like, and a tan/gold color. The legs are pink, the same color as the wide border around its wings. You can also see one of its eyes, which are solid black.

The wings are also visible, although slightly out of focus. They are a dusted, pale green, darker at the top and paler toward the bottom.

A shot looking at the head and body of a gorgeous regal moth. This guy was about 3-4 inches long and is orange and white. Its head is very fuzzy and its wings have orange veins and several distinctive white spots. The caterpillars of this moth are called hickory horned devils, and they're some of the coolest caterpillars I've ever seen!

A plant called Ghost Pipe! This plant is white (no chlorophyll) and grows in shoots that curve downwards at the top, ending with white bell-shaped five petal flowers. This particular plant had four shoots/flowers growing in a cluster and was about 6 inches tall. This plant is parasitic and steals nutrients from the roots of other plants.

A shot of an beautiful turtle looking at the camera. She was nearly a foot long (!!!) and has beautiful yellow markings on her face, neck, and legs. Her shell is fairly flat but has a beautiful muted pattern on it. I believe it's a female (based on size) chicken turtle, but I've asked iNaturalist for confirmation.
