On my way to the office this morning, I noticed this Australasian Darter, having a bit of trouble with its breakfast.
The trouble was short-lived though, and soon swallowed.

A very satisfied long-necked bird, with a lump in its neck (travelling down to its belly).
The same long-necked bird, now with fish detached, beak wide open and fish heading down its mouth head first.
A long necked bird pokes its head above the bank of the lake it is swimming in, with a fish skewered in its beak. It looks vaguely alarmed (although it probably isn't).

In the years following World War II, the remaining Libyan Jews were forced to emigrate, leaving just 100 in 1969 and none at all by 2004. Many went to #Israel and many to #Rome, adding to the spread and diversity of Libyan and North African Jewish #cooking. Today we enjoy such dishes as #mafrum (stuffed #potatoes), #couscous and #chraime (a spicy #fish #stew). Learning about these #foods helps us to understand our people."

On the morning of Thursday 16 of October, Te Papa's Curator Vertebrates came in and asked Curator Fishes if he knew anything about the fish lying out in the carpark up at the Tory Street building.
Worried that it might be a collection item, they went out and had a look, and there, lying on the ground, slightly dehydrated and worse for wear, was a small (9 cm) silver fish.

November is my birth month, so I will be releasing some photo magnet bundles in the days leading up to my birthday to try to offset the cost of a carryout pizza. Last year I didn't get a chance to do anything since I was dealing with a colloidal cyst in my brain.
