The #European #standards being developed to allow compliance with the Cyber Resilience Act have unusually high participation from #OpenSource community members. As a result many of the draft standards are being developed in markdown and are available for public review in ETSI's Gitlab instance. You will find links next to each standard on this page:

I highly recommend everyone to watch @nicorikken 's talk about challenges in using #IEC #standards in #FreeSoftware . Issues like that have a huge impact in our daily lives.

You have until this Friday the 19th to submit feedback on the draft US Standards Strategy: https://www.ansi.org/standards-news/all-news/8-4-25-us-standards-strategy-2025-now-available-for-public-review-and-comment I suggest to call for 1) legal guarantees for open source implementations of standards, 2) ensure that open standards remain open when incorporated into standardization bodies and 3) a lower barrier for participation. chrome developers: we are thinking of dropping support for rendering RSS feeds as something other than garbage code. does anyone have any reasons not to do this?

developers from many different backgrounds: yes, I rely on normal people being able to understand RSS for my business. dropping support will be disastrous for me because I can't rely on people to have some random extension installed.

chrome devs: OK well we're probably going to do it anyway because we can't be bothered to support web standards. uwu google is only a teensy wee company uwu
