I can't imagine my life without Superman. Maybe pulp heroes like Doc Savage, Tarzan, and John Carter would have stayed popular and eventually spawned franchises. I was never a big fan of Superman, but I acknowledge his importance to comics, movies, and TV.

@estelle excelent. I'll add something to this.

If Harry Potter had remained unpublished, we wouldn't have had the phenomenon of One Single Children Bestseller, worth printing in hardcover and doing huge marketing campaigns for. We would have a much healthier children's, YA and fantasy publishing ecosystem. Like it was in the nineties.

We would also have missed the crossover phenomenon and stuff like The Hunger Games. #questionoftheday
