But if you really want to freak yourself out with potential but inherently uncertain quantum computing futures, watch Alex Garland's 2020 mini-series Devs.

Noel Edmondsʼ Kiwi Adventure isnʼt that bad a watch. Actually humanizes the man. Also consider the source of his media beat-up: Stuff. On the other hand, thereʼs no mention so far of cycleways or COVID conspiracy theories.
Overall, a better ad for Aotearoa than the show most people know us for overseas: Border Patrol. #ITV#ITVX#TV

"... the crisis is looming, as it is in many other countries in the west, we're not alone. You look at Britain, you look at the US, you look at France ... the West has a problem, and when is it going to ween itself off debt."

Um, no. What we actually need to ween ourselves off is oil. Finite, polluting, increasingly expensive fossil fuels. That's a problem. This "Debt crisis" is an invention and a distraction.

One clever thing about Andor is that they've given themselves only 2 seasons to get from Cassian's initial contact with the rebels, to his death in Rogue One. As well as forcing the writers to give us a story with a definite end, that removes any temptation to pad it out with trivia to keep the cash train rolling.

"Written shortly after Ronald Reagan won the US presidency in 1980, Atwood's novel imagined a future in which the extreme religious right established a totalitarian regime in the aftermath of a civil war in America, amid plummeting worldwide fertility rates."

"Some of what you're thinking about Ghormans, at this very moment, exists because we put it there."

"Hasn't there always been something slightly arrogant about the Ghor? Oh, we all feel it, what is that?"

"Last year, when the shipping lanes had to be shut down, how hard would it have been to simply allow the Imperial inspections that most other planets welcome?"

"And don't you ever stand for that sort of thing. Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill'em right back.

Look, wife or no, you are no one's property to be tossed aside. You got the right, same as anyone, to live and try to kill people. I mean ... you know ... people that are ...

... That's a ... that's a dumb planet."

"I always liked Chris Boucher saying that when he wrote Avon, Avon has two motivations for everything. He has the selfish motivation, and the more noble motivation, and then it's up to you to decide what's really motivating him."

Good writing sticks to telling the characters' story, in all it's messiness, and leaves the audience to interpret what it all means. Is Blake or Avon a hero or a villain? That's up to the viewer to decide.
