Oh man!
Been a long time since I’ve listened to some Pylon!

Gyrate was their first record, and it’s still my favorite.

It’s got the same kinda jittery, nervous, art school feel to it; much in the same way that early Talking Heads had, but maybe a little more jagged and dirty.

My favorite part about Pylon is that their four individual parts are completely different puzzle pieces. Their musical approaches of each instrument are so unique, but they lock into together perfectly.
They were always very unique in that way to my ears.
And man, Vanessa Ellison (real last name Hay) was the perfect front woman for this band.
She’s so savage on “Feast On My Heart”.

Great album by a unique band.
Wonderful sounding reissue, too.

The first Colin Newman solo album that was meant to be the next Wire album.
That is… until EMI decided to get fucky.

It’s a wonderfully weird record. There’s definitely some none-Wire sounding moments on it, but ultimately, it doesn’t stray too far from that band’s awesomeness. It’s every bit as great as those first three records, and to this day, it’s far and away the best solo work.

“& Jury” is awesome, and “Alone” was actually used in The Silence Of The Lambs.

Few NEW albums have given me as much listening pleasure as Who Is The Sky?

At their heart, these songs are quite simple. Incredibly bright, playful, and brimming with personality. The MVP award here goes to producer Kid Harpoon and NYC’s incredible Ghost Train Orchestra. Their work really brought these great songs to life.

There are two gems here in particular that I could listen to forever: "I Met the Buddha at a Downtown Party" (which is wickedly funny), and “The Avant Garde”, which may be one of my favorite Byrne songs EVER.

The album clocks in at a very tight and compact 37 minutes. As soon as it’s over, I just want to start it over again.

GREAT album, and one of Byrne’s best solo efforts.

My local shop has TENS OF THOUSANDS of 7 inch singles of ALL kinds.

So, on slow days like today when I have nothing but time, I like to go down there and just… dig.

Today, I found THIS killer Flipper single (their fourth ever), which was released on Subterranean.
Only 11,000 in total were made, of which 8,000 of those were green. So this is one of those cases where the black vinyl version is more rare.

Flipper were, are, and will forever be THE SHIT.

They’re one of those many bands that I discovered through reading and hearing Kurt Cobain talk about them in interviews. He was a big fan, and it didn’t take me long to love them either.

Really great single here which, oddly, plays at 45 on the A side, and 33 on the flip.

Oh man, do I love this record. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard it.

This is a SUPER lo-fi mish-mash of #psych , #blues , and tribal #80s #artrock / #punk from Los Angeles.

The band only made three records (this one is their second), but each one is uncompromising and completely unique in their delivery.

There’s something oddly hypnotic about No Aggro, despite how incredibly Lo-fi sounding it is.
Maybe Pere Ubu-ish in some spots? Carrying the spirit of other bands like This Heat, but maybe a little more unhinged? I don’t know.

Regardless, even though it’s probably not for everyone, it’s worth a listen for the sake of pure art.

This record was limited to only 2,000 copies and is numbered #115 .
