From my walk this morning, Brown-Eyed Susan, Rudbeckia hirta. While taking the first photo I noticed a little flower crab spider, the Misumena vatia, commonly called the goldenrod crab spider.

Behold this metal af mushroom that showed up in our yard! Last night it had the classic, domed mushroom shape. By morning it had turned into this!

How to describe this magnificent fungi. It sprouts up from the spiky, redwood leaf litter on a smooth, cream colored stalk - maybe 10-15cm tall (but what do I know as an American 🙄). What was last night a tall, domed cap the same color as the stem transformed overnight into a disk shape ringed with shiny, almost metallic black fronds that curl under. Other gray mushroom anatomy going on inside the ring.

Found a little pop of colour, matching my shirt 😊 :
a Midland Painted Turtle hatchling, far away from any water. She slept in my hands while I carried her 2 km to the nearest pond.
Who knows how she got on that dusty logging road.
