Love these little "butcher birds." I need to try to find a Northern Shrike up here this winter

A Wilson’s snipe preparing to land so that its wings are blurred feet are blurred and body is in motion. Its breast is lit up fairly white with a fanned tail catching the light. If faces to the right with grasses in the background, it has stripes on its face with a long beak and cute little face.

Very cool Monday morning in Arlington Virginia. Photographed what I believe is a juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk, ssp lineatus. Much different than the elegans ssp in the west.

A medium sized raptor is perched on a horizontal oak branch. The bird is facing left, it has a buff breast with some brown spots and striped brown and tan head and a barred tail. It appears to be a juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk.

That was some good #birding! We finally, FINALLY, saw a red-breasted nuthatch 💜💜 not even common in Ottawa right now, but there were multiple of them!

I was feeding chickadees and a white-breasted nuthatch landed on my hand 🥹 first time that has even happened!

(Note: I would never hand feed birds that are not already fully acclimated to humans)

We also saw hairy woodpeckers, and a mourning dove!

Two bluebirds are in the small feeder, one bluebird is hovering above them, attempting to land and one is perched nearby, awaiting its turn.

Two male bluebirds were fighting over the feeder. One took to the air and got the upper wing, so to speak. Once one bird gets their claws close to their opponents eyes, the contest is over, as no bird wants an eye injury. Here the hovering bird, beak open aggressively, brings its claws down on its opponent's head.
