Today's #Muppets GIF of the Day is...
Despite how this picture looks, I did not lop off the back half of Francis Noodle. He was very proud of himself for (almost) getting on top of this carrier, so I took a picture.
I travel the country for work, so I stay in hotels quite often. Instead of stealing the bathroom products like most of you twats, I swap them for things I took from the previous hotel. The thought of the cleaners going "where the fuck did this shampoo come from?!" amuses me.
The F35 jet program is a swindle of epic proportions. According to this article, each F-35 jet costs about $750 million and Canada has agreed to buy 88 of them. That's $66 billion.
@Tattooed_Mummy category error. "AI" is a marketing term, not a specific technology. Your question is a copy-pasted example of the AI bubble vendors' public relations positioning.
@davidgerard @Tattooed_Mummy also, its not even about the technology, technology is maths, physics and engineering. the rightful backlash against AI companies is from the theft of material for training data and the impacts of widespread forced adoption. In short the law and corporate responsibility are what we should be talking about, which is exactly why they want us to talk about the technology and low probability benefits
A single signature by Trump can remove you from the internet

"A new David-versus-Goliath battle is being waged on the internet, after the U.S. government’s war against Julian Assange and #WikiLeaks. This time, the epicenter is Italy, and David is an Italian volunteer organization – a tiny collective of low-profile individuals who create and distribute encrypted email accounts, blogs, and mailing lists for free.

I love how the reason for all the proposed new data centers is about "winning the AI race with China." Meanwhile opposing the creation of new data centers means you fell for China's bot farm propaganda that is seeking to turn public opinion against US advancement in AI. The implication is that people who oppose new data centers are both anti-American and gullible tools.
@briankrebs This discourse lands rather differently here in Scotland (where the government is considering a proposed moratorium on all new data centre construction) …
@mope @skinnylatte Does the UK want him back? It would be extra ironic if he became stateless.

This is it right here, the whole point of AI. Externalization of all costs, protection from all liability, total lawlessness for capital.
@skinnylatte playing Papers, Please and thinking it's a cool thing we should actually do is reason enough to deport him

It’s kinda weird that Debian is getting into AI now. I’m like wait, I thought we all agreed that hype cycle was already breaking? Ugh, always being ahead of trends is so tiresome.
By sheer coincidence, I just wrote a minor lecture about flash a couple of days on VCFED:

The important bit is:
FLASH IS SIMPLY NOT A SUITABLE ARCHIVE MEDIUM!
@bsdphk there's one thing I'm curious about: do modern controllers periodically scrub data at rest or not? Because if they wait until the user reads the data some long-lived files that are seldomly accessed may deteriorate before they ever get touched.
Ordering my records again. Should I use first name sorting, or last name sorting? So should Macy Gray be under the letter M, or under G. And what about Nina Hagen Band?
I’m switching to first name sort. Unless you are able to convince me.
@vasilis Every artist name starts somewhere, but only some have a clear last name. I think you've made the right choice.
@david_chisnall @dwardoric
We can always have more
A bunch of the bits of Étoilé went through multiple names because I am bad at naming stuff.
Still slightly sad MS branding wouldn’t let me go with my original name for CHERIoT (Secure Hardware for Internet of Things).
open to be closely investigated
Friendly reminder that megacorporations like Amazon are ruining the world, and you can instead support small independent businesses that make weird little things like today's Low Quality Ad, this Cow Jumping Over The Moon Pin.

if #FLOSS developers are going to be paying tokens ―in kind or cash― to a multimillion dollar, venture-capital funded or publicly traded corporation for their #aislop code, then the FREE and LIBRE part of FLOSS isn't anymore.
now that part of the FLOSS codebase will now depend on that tokenized labor.
in other words: LLM/AI is antithetical to FLOSS
