That said, I would prefer that they offer the same service/product also as website or webapp so that we are not forced to decide between Apple and google but could move towards open source linux. That would make us independent from us tech companies.

@neil @Nickiquote naive thought of mine is this - keep this licensing idea but, it only applies if you have a default or forced algorithm timeline and targeted adverts - fedi no issue then, and those types of sites are different from the pub / cafe analogy I think - you are not forced in a pub to listen to folks other than those you want to, or have he staff come and try to sell you shit, and can easily leave and go to some other pub with your pals.

"ChemSec’s survey found nearly all of the 10 biggest manufacturers of Pfas had plans to increase production, at sites in Europe, Asia and North America.

The boom in AI tech was leading demand, with Pfas used for “eco-friendly” datacentre cooling and in various stages of semiconductor manufacturing.

Japan-headquarted Daikin said it was launching a “datacentre hub” to meet demand, and promised to “maintain and expand our top share in the industry by expanding sales of existing fluorine products and introducing new products”.

The French multinational Arkema was expanding its refrigerant offering, with a new $60m (£44m) production unit in Kentucky that it said “will enable us to follow the rapid expansion of datacenters’ cooling needs”.

And the US Pfas producer Chemours was expanding to meet demand from “advanced datacenters and AI hardware”. It said its “innovative liquid cooling solutions” lower the energy, water, space, maintenance and investment costs of datacentres."

Yes. It is of course very understandable to express our concerns about the world we care for, and convey the urgency to do so. I'm guilty of doing so myself from time to time, adding to the doomscroll.

We want engagement to take place beyond the 'shoutcast' of the microblog. Microblogging has the offline equivalent of standing on a soapbox in a market square. It only does awareness-raising well, but reaches mostly fedizens already aware, feeds an echo chamber.

#SX defines #CALMculture which stands for Constructive activism-led movements.

We should rethink what #activism entails. How to make it more strategic and effective. There's a process to that:

1. awareness -->
2. engagement -->
3. activation -->
4. cocreation 🌱

Working on solutions together.

So much activism remains stuck at 1) often in very aggressive ways that repel like-minded folks. Or only emphasizes "sacrifice" the activist MUST give, rather than rewards of participation.

Ich wollte das #ebook einer Neuerscheinung aus USA kaufen.
Das E-Book war im Format ACSM, das ich mit der Software Adobe Digital Editions 4.5.12 quasi umwandeln kann in das epub Format. Normalerweise klappt das super, aber diesmal gab es nur diese Fehlermeldung. Hat jemand von euch auch dieses Problem schon mal gehabt?
Ich habe das an die Buchhandlung gemeldet.
Zwar kann ich das E-Book im Tolino Onlinebereich öffnen, könnte es theoretisch am PC lesen, aber das finde ich sehr unbequem.

Au sein du monde de l'édition indépendante qui n'est déjà pas au mieux de sa forme, un paquet de maisons alternatives sont au plus mal.

Si rien ne bouge, pour elles comme pour nous, le printemps sera un peu plus silencieux :(
