Judge Boasberg still fighting for rule of law. Kristi Noem submitted an unhelpful declaration re her basis for disobeying court order to reverse a flight removing people the US. Noem said she made the decision to ignore the court on the basis of legal advice. Now Boasberg has ordered former DoJ atty Erez Reuveni and current Dep Asst Att Gen Drew Ensign to appear in court. Judge needs more info to figure out who, if anybody, acted in contempt of court. https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.278436/gov.uscourts.dcd.278436.200.0_1.pdf 1/ #Lawfedi

There is nothing law-like or court-like about the latest shadow docket decision from the Roberts Court, which stays a district court decision throwing out Texas’s mid-decade gerrymander due to racial basis.
The majority simply ignored: the lower court, its own precedents re deference to lower court fact-finding, and the clear evidence. Just an edict to protect the Republican Fascists’ power. 1/ #Lawfedi
I’m reading the facts in a new decision temporarily prohibiting the Trump regime from making warrantless civil immigration arrests unless the regime has probable cause to believe that the person subjected to arrest is in the U.S. unlawfully AND is likely to escape before a warrant may be obtained. https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/26330866/molina-ddc.pdf 1/ #Lawfedi

Tech coverage of Google's Gemini controversy centered on denying AI training claims, while largely ignoring the Thele v. Google LLC lawsuit filed on November 11, 2025.
The complaint alleges: “[O]n or about October 10, 2025, Google secretly turned on Gemini for all its users’ Gmail, Chat, and Meet accounts, enabling AI to track its users’ private communications contained in those platforms without the users’ knowledge or consent. As of the date of this filing, Google continues to track these private communications with Gemini by default, requiring users to affirmatively find this data privacy setting and shut it off, despite never ‘agreeing’ to such AI tracking in the first place.”
Google has denied the training allegations but has remained silent on the October 10 claims.

Trump regime, including DoJ on its own behalf, has identified to Judge Boasberg the individuals who together disobeyed his orders to return Venezualans in mid-flight to U.S. when the regime first acted to remove them pursuant to the Alien Enemies Act. 1/ #LawFedi https://assets.bwbx.io/documents/users/iqjWHBFdfxIU/rF.CJry9fVkI/v0

# "Using LibreOffice and other Free software for documents as a lawyer"
I was asked recently about how I get on using LibreOffice for document-related legal work, and I promised to write down some thoughts.
The short answer is that I use a mix of LibreOffice and other FOSS tools, and I’m very positive about it, with no particular concerns.
If you have questions, please do ask!
