For my mobile development course, I'm trying to steer people away from just using Firebase for everything and towards a selfhosted solution (obviously 😉). Last year, I used Pocketbase, because it's just a single drop-in executable and has good Flutter support, and that seemed to work reasonably well, but I'm curious if people have any alternative suggestions? Keep in mind that the students are still relatively early in their bachelor's degree and not very experienced.

@pixelfed I just closed my #Pixelfed account. It was an interesting experience and the platform has potential but it needs *A LOT* of work.
Both the #mobile app and #web UI are slow, confusing, and need redesigns. There is an #Instagram #migration tool but it is broken. And then there are inconsistencies with showing the same number of boosts and comments when viewed from #Mastodon vs Pixelfed.
Believe me, I'd love to see it take off and be a successful platform but it seems that the time and energy has gone into #Loops instead. It feels like Pixelfed is on the verge of becoming #abandonware.
