For hiking/cycling, I'll add Openrunner. Currently hesitating to switch from Komoot.

For driving, it's sadly hard to beat Waze with the user's live updates (alerts on police presence or object on road being ones I find useful).

@jackofalltrades thanks. I can’t remember where but there was a paper a year or two ago that made the case that the way carbon emissions have been attributed drastically underplays the contribution of land use.

Two years ago, i was dealing with some depression, so I bought a watercolor sketchbook. I thought "it would be cool to go Mordor" so, i did it, in my artistic way.
I track my steps, and compare it to Frodo's journey, each month I researched and draw 3 places that were on Frodo's journey, and I reached the necessary miles.
It was a work of love, and whimsy, and made me leave my comfort zone in more than 1 way.
It took 14 months and 2.7 millions of steps, and 46 pages illustrated, but i did it 😁
