For my first “real” post I’d like to share this absolutely INCREDIBLE moth I found on campus a few days back. This is *Cosmosoma myrodora*, the Scarlet Bodied Wasp Moth. This striking moth is native to the southeastern US and is named because its appearance is believed to be mimicry of wasps— If I had to guess, likely a Polistidae species. This moth is a tiger moth (Arctiini) in the family Erebidae, much like the Salt Marsh Moth (*Estigmine acrea*) that is also native to Galveston, though I don’t think anyone is at high risk of confusing the two as they look very different. *C. myrodora* larva feed on *Mikania* genus plants called hempvines. Unless I’m mistaken, there’s an absolutely massive hempvine by the parking lot on campus. Maybe I’ll pop over there and see if I can find some larvae or pupae.

At some point in the future I might figure why Firefox last 2 tabs stop reacting to any mouse feedback on the longest running Firefox window.

I'm pretty sure is not a Hyperland issue since it is THE window.

there's another reason for why i hate gemini other than it just being AI, whenever it (randomly!!) opens on my phone it turns off my headphones. It doesn't stop the video or plays a different sound, it doesn't simply disconnect the bluetooth, it somehow TURNS OFF my headphones.

whenever gemini does this i need to put the earbuds back in the case and take them out again. how is this a thing

I wonder if gemini is why my ear buds are now randomly going to my phone when I'm using them with my computer. #bluetooth #technology #bugs#PixelBugs #hacking

ah, a man and his big, strong armoured wife :’]

trilobite beetles!! i’m fascinated by all of the Platerodrilus beetles but P.paradoxus takes the cake in terms of style. the females keep their larval form, and reach up to 80mm in size while the males are tiny, around 8mm. and i love them 😊

a digital artwork of two trilobite beetles, facing each other on a beige background with a dark red border. the left beetle is labelled male and is small, red and black with fluffy antenna. the right beetle is labelled female and is much larger, with armoured plates along its body, and is mostly black, with orange and red spikes, legs, and head. the two are surrounded by hand drawn stars, and two hearts above their heads. the scientific name, Platerodrilus paradoxus and the common name are also written.

A macro photograph of a green bug sitting on a cluster of wilted flowers. the plant consist of many rows of flowers, most of which have totally wilted. The plant is mostly out of focus. The bug is in the middle of the image, its shield facing the camera and head down. The shape of the bug is quite flat, with a slightly convex green shiled, full of small black dots ant a yellow rim. From the head come two antennae, mostly greenish but a couple of red spots and dark tips.

The background is completely out of focus and a uniform, light bluish green.

Black Swallowtail - Bug Diaries - 1
#bugs#BugDiaries #comic

Alt text: Bug Diaries comic strip - Black Swallowtail. The artist approached a butterfly stuck behind some plastic sheeting. “Oh you’re stuck behind the plastic. I’ll help you.” The butterfly is a Black Swallowtail, Papilio polyxenes. The artist holds the lovely creature in their hand, getting a good look at its lovely wings. “You’ll make a great iNaturalist observation.” The artist gets out their phone to take a picture. Before the image is taken the Swallowtail flies off. “I guess that one was just for me ❤️"

#photography #bugs #nature

This is year two for my milkweed. I have yet to see a caterpillar or butterfly on it, but it attracts all kinds of bugs. I snapped this photo yesterday afternoon, and I have no idea what these orange-and-black insects are. Does anybody have a clue?

A trio of conical milkweed seed pods, each of which is swarming with bright orange insects with black dots, each about 4mm long.

Good heavens, this #macOS 26 "Tahoe" beta is such utter crap, nothing really works.

What a sad year for #Apple.

Instead of creating a nice user interface, turing off the obscene "transparency" generates even more migraine inducing animation #garbage.

Such a sick joke.

macOS 26 should come with a health warning.

Hey Apple, postpone macOS 26 to at least 2028, an start fixing the #bugs.
Even better: Delete all that "smear" crap and start with a clear new interface and hire a couple of designers who know what the word usability actually means.

Also, right as I was coming home I saw a pair of mating thread-legged bugs (family Reduviidae, subfamily Emesinae) on the wall! I have only seen them singly before. They're extremely skinny assassin bugs with a mantis-like raptorial first pair of legs.

They're very hard to take photos of as they will try to get away from you and also do this shaky, juddering walk. (Camouflage?) Lots of better photos here: https://bugguide.net/node/view/213

45° angled photo of a pair of small long thin insects with legs so thin they're barely visible, on a stone slab. The female (bottom) has her first pair of legs tucked up; they're thicker and shorter, made for grabbing, like a praying mantis's. In the foreground are a few bristle millipedes, one very small.

Not confirmed yet, but there's only one species of this genus expected in North America, so I feel confident saying this is the first observation of this species in Oregon for iNaturalist and only the 2nd on BugGuide, which is pretty dang cool

Aelia americana, a type of stink bug

A macro photo of a small, rounded, tan and brown stink bug crawling on the gravel on the side of the road. The smooth carapace of the bug is dimpled with tiny dots, and its small eyes can be seen on the sides of its head at the base of each short, segmented antenna
