very first paragraph of chapter 1. see directly how it subverts "privacy" to mean "cryptographic security"?

diffie literally had a whole SEPARATE paper in 1976 describing anonymity even to the level of packet frequency patterns being a necessary component of "security" and described network surveillance as actively being pursued. 1976!

ECC shouldn't stop us from doing what we want i.e. using diffie-hellman to generate ephemeral identifiers that can't be correlated. the above framing of "privacy" uses the very information that keeps messaging encrypted between parties to enforce that each participant identifies themselves uniquely in all their messages to others

@Marloezovic @techdirt.com Zoals ik het begrijp uit het citaat van Fight (Fight for the Future), is dat Meta de situatie uitbuit om veel informatie uit de leeftijdsverificatie te halen, en daarbij zoveel mogelijk bedrijven mee te slepen in de chaos en rommel die ontstaat in het verifiëren van de leeftijd. Volgens Fight is hier geen eenduidige methode voor en iedere manier heeft haken en ogen. Dat mogen dan ook appstores en andere social-media bedrijven oplossen. Dat betekent m.i. ook dat er veel meer actie ondernomen moet worden tegen al die bedrijven die daar een oplossing voor zoeken door privacy-onvriendelijke leeftijdsverificatie aan te bieden. In ieder geval wordt leeftijdsverificatie in deze rechtszaak gelegitimeerd, en dat is op zich al een gevaar voor de privacy.

I should mention that in GTK 4, unless you ask specifically for a GDK_TYPE_PIXBUF, you'll likely get the built in Tiff/PNG support.

I don't actually have a mac anymore though to test. Red Hat took their machine back so that means I wont be doing any more macOS work.

Pasteboard integration is here though once you're using GTK 4 builds of Inkscape.

@ertchin @ami_angelwings The "time travelers go back to prevent a historical catastrophe, but their actions in the past are the trigger without which the catastrophe would never have happened" trope is also interesting. A good example is Jack Finney's From Time to Time. A think tank finds scattered artifacts of a gleaming alternate reality of continuous progress that would have existed if WWI hadn't occurred. They determine that the sinking of the Titanic doomed a diplomatic mission that would have prevented the war. So they sent someone back to prevent the iceberg collision, and they grab the wheel and randomly alter the ship's course by just a bit. Turns out it's the new course that results in the collision.

@KevinCarson1 There's a work I won't name because I would be spoiling it tremendously, but part of its conceit is that the protagonist is repeatedly shown they cannot change a particular moment in their observed past because it led directly to their current existence as it is ... so they come up with a way to make the observed past lead to a better outcome.
