Do You Have a Beef with Me Buddy?
I captured a photo of a rather plump Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) who appears to be staring me down with quiet intensity. The original image had quite a bit of noise, so some feather detail was lost in the cleanup—but even so, it’s a delight to behold.
Step into a world where even the smallest moments—like the glint in a bird's eye—tell their own story.

Got Shrimp
Here’s a moment where a laughing gull (Leucophaeus atricilla) swooped down and plucked a shrimp straight from the surf—mid-flight, mid-feast, mid-ceremony. And of course, a sanderling (Calidris alba) wandered into the frame, photobombing with perfect timing and coastal dignity.
I captured this scene on the beach at Gulfport, Mississippi.

Good morning. ☕☕☕
4 November 2025
I can’t think of anything new to say this morning that I haven’t already covered. That’s usually how mornings go for me—so sometimes I just start typing, like I’m doing now, and hope something rises to the surface. Hmm... I wish verbal conversation worked the same way. Maybe that would be an advantage. In person, I don’t speak unless I have something worth saying. I’m certainly no chatterbox.
Still, not talking up a storm might be a mistake. It assumes other people know what I know, and that’s not always the case. Over the past decade, I’ve noticed that even the most basic concepts escape more people than I expected. Things like “the sun rises in the east and sets in the west”—you’d think that’s common knowledge. But not necessarily. It’s a little unsettling.
Once upon a time, I was far more open. In fact, I sometimes went overboard. It took someone else to point out that I didn’t need to explain every little detail. That’s when I started noticing people zoning out while I was trying to help them understand something. I thought I was being clear. I wonder what changed.
Did I shift from extrovert to introvert? Yes, I think that happened. That’s passive voice. Let me correct that: Yes, it happened.
If you can make sense of what I’m trying to say this morning, you’re ahead of me.
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” — Aristotle
“Silence is only frightening to people who are compulsively verbalizing.” — William S. Burroughs
“The problem with introspection is that it has no end.” — Philip K. Dick

White Flame Rising
This is a striking image of a Great Egret (Ardea alba), captured in a pose that almost suggests surrender—as if the bird were saying, “Go ahead, take my picture.” But what appears to be resignation is, in truth, a fleeting moment frozen in time. The egret is not yielding—it’s gathering itself, preparing to rise. Wings lifted, body poised, it stands at the threshold between stillness and flight.
