@splendorr Each year when I'm asked where I want to be taken out for my birthday, the list of answers I have to skip because they no longer exist gets longer. :-/
@woozle this is /exactly/ the feeling. I really get this.
I’m making an effort to try new places, make new friends, etc, in a way that felt impossible for a few years. But I guess we never stop wanting to revisit the best-feeling places 😭🤷♀️
Doppelter Gewinn für Meta: Im Kleingedruckten des 17 Milliarden $ - Vergleiches wurde auch die Aufarbeitung des Cambridge Analytica-Skandals beerdigt.

If you genuinely think that the US Treasury might decide in the next few years to redefine GDP so as to include fucking chatbots, people should be laughing at you in the streets.
These are people with degrees from Stanford and Cambridge and so on who believe things too absurd even for creationists or homeopaths.
Maďarský parlament dnes zvolil politoložku Annu Ungerovou do čela nově zřízeného Národního úřadu pro vymáhání a ochranu majetku.
My wife bought new salad cutlery and because of the weird number of arms on the fork my first impulse was "that's AI". Which of course doesn't make sense because I was holding the object in my hands.

Zu blöd die eigenen Aussagen zu relativieren 🤦🏻
@Jain Kann sehr empfehlen den ganzen Text zu lesen!
But this isn’t to say it’s obvious across the fediverse. Meta is huge, profitable, and has a lot of skilled engineers. Because of these qualities, there is significant acceptance for Meta’s Threads as a valuable part of the open fediverse....

The monkey-punchers at Google never quite seem to finish any of their apps. There's always some useful bit of work left undone, or showstopping bug which remains unfixed, a thousand jagged edges as yet unsolved by the greatest minds of their generation.
I wanted to subscribe to an events calendar. I had a URl. I had my Google™ Pixel® ph…

@Edent To use the internal phrase: Google software only comes in two states: deprecated and not yet ready.

A photo that I digitized on this day many years ago. My dad, on the tractor, and his older brother, on their childhood farm. Probably around 1942.
What's amazing is that tractor, a Farmall B, still works to this day. I myself probably put a couple thousand hours on it sitting in that same seat. It simply would not stop.
@troublewithwords They hadn't invented planned obsolescence yet.
@tante The arms are called "tines"!
@researchfairy Thank you for answering the question in my head. It's "Zinken" in German btw.
@tante

Aaaaand the site is down. Apparently it has been for the past 12 hours or so.
I know the Trisuli valley a little. And we've seen these kinds of outburst floods in the Himalayas before, though not this big. That valley is an ancient trade route- the way comes from the Newar city-states (now the Kathmandu conurbation), to Nuwakot on the Trisuli, along up past Betravati to Kyirong, and then on to other parts of Tibet. There were dozens of villages, monasteries, shrines, and markets along there, thousands of years of settlements and rituals and fields and forests.
Sometimes it feels like a slow process - the butterflies diminish year on year, the sea takes away a bit more of the golf course; and sometimes the actual speed of change is made horribly clear.

Sounds like is was a mud, ice, water debris flow - not an avalanche causing a temporary dam that burst.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=hG7E3--2xwA
The flood came too soon after the seismic readings for that.
Part if the glacier broke off (causing the seismic signal) and travelled 2km vertically into the valley. The ice and rock scoured water logged soil as it went, getting larger as it moved. Then it did the same thing to the river bottom.
Want a #GNOME #email app "between Evolution and Geary"? Check out J-M Brummer's "Stamp" app, unveiled at #OpenSUSE conference 2026:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/jbrummer/stamp
He's been working on it for the last 2 years. It reuses the Evolution Data Server backend, combining its proven reliability with an adaptive GTK4+libAdwaita GUI.
It also handles contacts and calendaring (by embedding GNOME Calendar as a widget!). Future versions will allow using it not just as a PIM but also as a standalone mail app.
