So, what's going on when Gnome Software says there's 2 runtime-thingies available for update, while Bazaar says there's 5? And when I do the 2 in Software, Bazaar says there's now suddenly just 1?
Is there available anywhere a graphic overview over the #Gnome DE where all the parts are marked and named, so that if you have an issue with a part you don't know the name of you can find it there so you can search or ask about it?
Edit: Like this, only, you know, from this decade:
I've started to try and create this myself. Any thoughts so far?
Please let me know now if you know of this existing already, so I don't have to do extra work… 😊
PSA to #GTK and #GNOME app developers: if your application deals with saving files, it is extra nice to show an in-app notification with an "Open Folder" action button so the user can directly open the containing folder in their file manager afterwards!
Convenience API function in #GTK4 here: https://docs.gtk.org/gtk4/method.FileLauncher.open_containing_folder.html

I've long wished for a kind of widget space in #Gnome. Since the new virtual desktops are created to the right I've thought that this could be on a special "widget desktop" one step to the left – like how newer Android (or at least some versions of it) has a news feed to the left.
But then, of course it's hard to navigate to. Being able to slide it up from below from any desktop you're on, I think could be extremely useful.
Weather, note pads, news feeds. Anyone could create new widgets...
But mostly I guess my biggest annoyance with #Gnome right now (which speaks to how mostly fantastic it is), is that there's no direct way of easily getting back to files and folders you're working with these days. I often have different projects at different times, so I want fast access to folders X, Y, Z for a period and then folder Æ, Ø, Å at a later period, etc, and also just to any recently used file. Now you have to go trough Nautilus to do this. Undermines the usefulness of the Overview.
Right before I woke up today I saw in my dream a DE where the main part of the Overview (where you see your open windows) took up less of the screen, and below there was a new area that was split up in different sections with any kinds of widgets and icons for apps or files/folders you currently work a lot with, etc. You could resize and change these sections any way you wanted.
The strange thing is that this was #KDE, which I've never really used. But I think it could work great with #Gnome :)

Hey, I reached a 7 digit score on #Quadrapassel (which I've learned do not calculate the score exactly like original #tetris)!
It's also my best run in terms of levels (14) and lines (133), which, because of the complicated way scores are calculated didn't have to be the case
Unfortunately #Gnome games support does not support showing extra info in the scoreboard, so I have to add it manually. But if you're a dev you could help fix that here https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libgnome-games-support/-/issues?show=eyJpaWQiOiIzNSIsImZ1bGxfcGF0aCI6IkdOT01FL2xpYmdub21lLWdhbWVzLXN1cHBvcnQiLCJpZCI6MjI5NzA0fQ%3D%3D
What's your best score?
Wow! 6 days ago I created an issue over at #Gnome, about fixing a tiny annoyance I had, where I couldn't choose to open certain links inside #libadwaita apps in any way except for in the default browser.
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libadwaita/-/issues/1093
The very same day the great @alice replied positively, and by the next day she already had three commits ready!
Today I checked in my #GnomeOS nightly, and whaddayaknow, it's already implemented! Yey!
So fun to actually have a real impact on the OS you use :)
It's time guys, GNOME is good but...
...if you want GNOME to be great, there is a donation button that links to here:
I'll donate to GNOME any time of the day as long they don't spend 40% of the budget for inclusive bathrooms.

The only thing is that after the commit was already created I saw that Bazaar had solved this same issue in maybe a better way…? question mark, question mark
At least it's a much more discoverable way. And I think it looks nice. But my suspicion is that it will not be a widely used feature, and so it might be better to hide it behind a right click, instead of having it right in the face of everyone all the time? idk

I was admittedly bearish about Bazaar early on; I was confused by the design that was trying to reinvent a lot of things, plus I didn’t know how I felt about diverging efforts from GNOME Software.
Now that the Bazaar team has decide to clone the Flathub web UI whenever it makes sense (and improve on it in cool ways!), I’ll admit it: it’s pretty rad.
Huge props to the designers and developers making Bazaar. It’s the Flathub app store @tbernard always wanted.

Happy to find a #Gnome extension for easy access to recently used files, that is updated to work with Gnome 49: https://github.com/lgoio/RecentItems
I think fast and easy access to recently used files is so crucial to a productive work environment that it needs to be built in to Gnome in some way! Here's my suggestion on how to do it: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Teams/Design/whiteboards/-/issues/165
Fedora Workstation 43 brings a few niceties like @gnome 49 and a new video player, but also an important change.
With this release, Fedora Workstation will be Wayland only as we finalize the migration to the new display server. It's been a long road getting to this point, but the day has come. Excited to continue to make progress in this space!
