diffie literally had a whole SEPARATE paper in 1976 describing anonymity even to the level of packet frequency patterns being a necessary component of "security" and described network surveillance as actively being pursued. 1976!
ECC shouldn't stop us from doing what we want i.e. using diffie-hellman to generate ephemeral identifiers that can't be correlated. the above framing of "privacy" uses the very information that keeps messaging encrypted between parties to enforce that each participant identifies themselves uniquely in all their messages to others
