Oh god. A friend of mine and her hubby have been plotting to sell their holiday home, plans that will fund a gentle but lovely retirement. Three weeks ago, the day after they did the budget she awoke hearing him very upset - he was looking at his trousers and couldn’t remember what do do with them.
Long story short, he has been in hospital ever since, rapid decline, he no longer recognises her and has ‘rapid onset dimentia”. From normal husband to completely unable to function in three weeks.
Love your people. Do your wills and EPOAs. Have those holidays now.
Wow! I'm touched. A flurry of love brings me close to raising the production budget of this #solarpunk short film. Thank you all so much! I can't do it without your support as I'm excluded from platforms like #kickstarter yet I really want to make this film about a future with no capitalism, governments, or police. Boost or donate if you can!

Who will win the Ukraine war?
The key take-away is that uncertainty kills businesses ability to make plans for the future. Brexit did this for the UK, and Trump's tariff nonsense is doing *exactly* the same to the USA, only faster (Brexit came after a four-year delay then took more years to reach full impact).
I expect the USA in 2028 to look as if it Brexited itself from the global economy in 2025. (But then add a tech bubble collapsing on top!)

Blanket fort construction
Hello.
I construct my blanket fort using a pole system, it goes together about the same as PVC pipes.
So I make a base, vertical corners, and a roof then I clip blankets to the outside.
You do not need a fancy set up.
Before I found this set at the flea market I was just making them the old fashioned way.
You need:
An empty place to chill
3-4 corners (furniture can be useful here, dining room chairs, pillows etc)
Blanket to cover the top and sides (does not need to be literal, you can use sheets, towels, parachutes, whatever you find)
Keep in mind:
- safety means no open flames in the fort
- if you have cats please arrange a few exits
- led fairy lights are not going to get hot in there
- you don't have to do anything productive in there
- it's kind of cool
YOU WOULDN'T *EAT* A PUPPY.
WHY DO YOU EVEN HAVE THAT THING?
Everybody go read "Termination Shock" by Neal Stephenson, because apparently that whole scenario is actually about to start happening: https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2025/11/21/stardust-geoengineering-janos-pasztor-regulations-00646414
I emailed the support team at Libro.fm several weeks ago, listing some accessibility problems and frustrations. They responded immediately and said they'd see what they could do. I just got a follow-up email. It says that they have addressed several concerns I raised, and I should give them feedback if I notice anything else that should be fixed. Good on them! This is the kind of response I always hope to get, and almost never do.
Alright, so what would be this season's color, then?
As I say in the blog post, I'm not done with the kaupapa (principles-driven mission) of Bridge Seat. I'm going to take some time to reflect, and focus on upskilling myself on server admin. But I'm definitely keen to have another go at working on a tech co-op.
If any tech co-ops out there are looking for someone to fill a remote, part-time janitorial role let me know. I can do a mix of interface testing and UX feedback, writing for blogs/ social media accounts, admin guff and general dogbodying.

Happy gotcha day, Mila! 7 years out of her 19, with her
@mike recently recommended to me @daedalus's weekly newsletter, "The Crux". It covers enterprise tech, the cloud, and infosec. I subscribed last week and just got the first newsletter since subscribing. It is REALLY GOOD and I highly recommend it. Solid content that you won't necessarily see elsewhere.
