If you're in #California and like #morel #mushrooms , you might want to get up to the Sierra National Forest in the next few days and do some #foraging in the recent burn scars.
It's going to be a massive morel mushroom year and it's just starting.
McKinley Grove Road opens tomorrow and is the eastern edge of the Garnet Fire footprint. That could be a good area to look.
Another good area would be in the Creek Fire burn scar which runs from the Bass Ranger District to the High Sierra Ranger District. You can access it from many different roads because it's a massive burn scar. If it was me, I would probably check out around Huntington Lake
These mushrooms were found in a recent controlled burn area (from about three years ago) and there were about 50 more of them in a 50x50 foot area this morning. They were at an elevation of about 5500 ft under a canopy of living trees.
Happy foraging!
