Frightening images out of #Pasadena, #California show a plainclothes #federal#LawEnforcement officer at a stoplight jumping out of his vehicle & drawing his #weapon on a person attempting to #photograph his license plate.

Details are limited & exact circumstances of the incident are unknown, but the potentially deadly confrontation occurred Wed morning at around the same time federal #immigration agents carried out an op at a bus stop nearby.

Reuters images showed #Marines apprehending a #civilian, restraining his hands w/zip ties & then handing him over to civilians from #DHS.

Asked about the incident, US #military's Northern Command spox said active duty forces "may temporarily detain an individual in specific circumstances."

"Any temporary detention ends immediately when the individual(s) can be safely transferred to the custody of appropriate civilian law enforcement personnel," a spox said.

Sherman is commander of Task Force 51, which is overseeing the >4,000 Guard troops & 700 #Marines who have been deployed to #LosAngeles to provide security during the #protests.

There were numerous scenes of protesters throwing rocks or other objects at law enforcement officers & setting cars ablaze, including a number of self-driving #Waymo taxis. At the same time, false images spread to revive old #ConspiracyTheories that the #protests were a planned provocation, not a spontaneous response to the #immigration raids.

They are expected to join 2k members of the #California#NationalGuard whom #Trump ordered deployed without the authorization of the #state’s #governor, #GavinNewsom, who normally [legally] has command of the #troops.

🚨🚨 #NationalGuard members or other agents, it’s not clear which, just fired what appeared to be #TearGas at the crowd outside the detention center in downtown #LosAngeles, scattering #protesters who coughed from the smoke. Others helped them wash out their eyes.

At least one protester was hit by a #RubberBullet.

#Trump just spoke to reporters. During questioning about what #NationalGuard #troops were authorized to do he said:

“If they spit, we hit.”

That is 100% NOT how law enforcement is supposed to respond.

The #UseOfForce is limited by #proportionality.
