Educational institutions have been parroting narratives from Silicon Valley since I was in school in the 90s and honestly their vision of the world to come is no more true today than it was then. The basic aspects of education: reading, mathematics, critical reasoning, arts, etc. never really change.

Watching the world evolve (or devolve) in the last decade, it has become so painfully clear that the people who run these platforms are not just careless, or incompetent, or ignorant.

They are quite clearly selective in what they permit and what they disallow. And their choices make it obvious that they are active, openly hostile enemies of civil, humane, flawed but improving societies.

The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe is one signature away from reclaiming 1,100 acres of ancestral land in Washington state.

The parcel along the Lower Elwha River sat flooded beneath a dam’s reservoir for more than a century, cutting the tribe off from the salmon runs that sustained their way of life.

Now that the dam has been removed, the land is recovering, and a federal bill returning it to the tribe has passed both houses of Congress and awaits the president’s signature.

The area includes historic villages and the site where elders say the Creator blessed the tribe into existence, along with habitat for salmon, bears, mountain lions, and kingfishers.

The transfer would effectively reverse part of an 1855 treaty that ceded most of the tribe’s territory, and this year marked the fourth straight season tribal members have exercised their fishing rights on the river.

As tribe member Vanessa Castle put it, the last missing piece of the river’s restoration was the Klallam people themselves, who will finally have a space to call home again.

Stanford Universituy researchers reversed coral bleaching in just seven weeks, the fastest recovery ever documented.

The discovery started by accident when a professor noticed a bleached coral fragment regaining color where it had tipped over and touched a healthy clone.

When genetically identical corals make contact, their tissues fuse and allow beneficial algae and nutrients to flow into the bleached coral.

In lab tests, bleached fragments that touched healthy ones fully recovered, while those left just millimeters apart died.

*Just five days to a week of contact was enough to kickstart recovery, after which algae inside the bleached corals multiplied about 10 times faster than in the wild*.

Published in Science Advances, the findings give researchers new hope for restoring reefs damaged by ocean heat.

Ghana is getting close to eliminating malaria deaths.

They’ve fallen by an astonishing 98% since 2011.

The national malaria programme logged 3,300 deaths in 2011, and just 52 last year.

At Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, infectious-disease chief Elisabeth Tabitha Abbew says nobody has died of malaria in two years.
