AWS, Microsoft Azure, and CloudFlare – services run by gigantic corporations with endless supply of money and talent – all experience catastrophic, global failures that take innumerable other services down with them within 30 days. :blob0w0:
Meanwhile Wikipedia just keeps chugging along, globally stable and reliable as always. :blobcatlove:
And yes, Wikimedia Foundation runs a pretty complex infrastructure:

According to early reports, another AWS outage has struck the internet, with a huge rise in reports of problems across AWS-backed services, including Azure, Microsoft 365, Minecraft, Capital One, Xbox, and, of course, AWS itself.

AWS: Your honor, we do not believe we are bound by the SLA punitive clause in our contract with the plaintiff in this case.
Judge: Care to explain?
AWS: Certainly. The direct cause was tracked down to a bit of AI-generated code.
Judge: How does that…
AWS: It was an act of God, your honor.
Well whaddya know, Amazon AWS fired hundreds of people in their cloud computing unit in July:

> …just a month after CEO Andy Jassy warned that adoption of generative AI tools would trigger a workforce reduction.
Clown Computing! 🤡
If you're wondering what AWS is, it's kinda like the operating system of the corporate Internet.
I call it bezOS.

This would be a good time to ask Amazon how much of their stuff is vibe coded.
The day the world stood still.
Because the world keeps putting all service eggs into the same infrastructure provider basket. 🤡
Line go up!
I've recently (last few months) had several instances where #AWS says they are passing all health checks. But the serial console is not available, and the node is not responding to anything at all. All endpoints are down in the load balancers.
I've had to take manual intervention to terminate these instances so that the auto-scaler can bring up a new one and K8s can move the workload. Anyone else seeing this? This is us-west-2 #awscloud
Advanced Programming the UNIX Environment
Week 1: UNIX Basics
In this lecture, we provide a whirlwind tour of the Unix programming environment. In the process, we write a simple shell, a simple version of the ls(1) command, and two versions of the cat(1) command while learning about the Unix Philosophy.
