Weil wir ja immer noch nach dem ultimativen Killerargument fuer mehr digitale Souveraenitaet suchen... Ich glaube ich habs.
Wenn das nicht zieht, dann weiss ich auch nicht mehr 😎
Signal using AWS has no impact on its security and privacy guarantees.
Signal operates in a trust-less model, meaning client apps go to extreme lengths to not trust the server at all. Everything is e2ee, so the server is a mere dumb conduit between senders and recipients. Heck, the server could be malicious or taken over by an adversary and neither security nor privacy would take much of a hit, if any at all.

AWS: Your honor, we do not believe we are bound by the SLA punitive clause in our contract with the plaintiff in this case.
Judge: Care to explain?
AWS: Certainly. The direct cause was tracked down to a bit of AI-generated code.
Judge: How does that…
AWS: It was an act of God, your honor.
Well whaddya know, Amazon AWS fired hundreds of people in their cloud computing unit in July:

> …just a month after CEO Andy Jassy warned that adoption of generative AI tools would trigger a workforce reduction.

"Infrastructure is only visible upon breakdown" -- Geof Bowker and Susan Leigh Star
Re #AWSOutage, there seems to be a number of UK organisations impacted who I would have assumed would have needed UK Sovereign storage, rather than sticking it in US-East-1?
e.g. according to DownDetector there seems to be a number of UK banks, mobile companies, accountants, HMRC, etc. affected
To be fair, AWS tells you that you shouldn't rely on a single region.
But yeah, half of the internet shouldn't rely on AWS neither.

The day the world stood still.
Because the world keeps putting all service eggs into the same infrastructure provider basket. 🤡
