Finally found my old wiki page documenting stuff that bothers me about Signal, as of 2019;
Some of this is out of date. I need to go through it all and figure out what's still an issue and/or a verifiable fact about Signal's history, find suitable archive links for pages no longer on the web, etc.
I feel a blog post coming on ...

We are basically doing what #signal and in particular moxie refused to do or declares impossible: federation.
Both #email and #activitypub ecosystems are all about federation.
However, #deltachat is vertically centralized in that all UIs use the same #rust core which implements all networking, encryption, chat/group/message logic in a single centralized place. The now 40+ #chatmail mail relay network is driven from centralized code.
At each level replication and federation is built in.

Imagine a mobile text chat app that's a cross between Delta.Chat and Silence (defunct SMS app forked from early Signal);

As well as being the mobile app for my personal email address, it could also replace my SMS app. With the capacity for E2EE text when the other person's app supports either AutoCrypt (or something based on the variant of Signal's protocol that Silence uses).
